Just put up a camera over it gonna see when they''re coming to it . Two trails lead to the old pond that I haven't seen go dry in 5 years but she's almost dry this year. Tracks all over it where they're trying to get close enough to get a drink . Gonna put me a ladder stand over it hunt it a few times this early season

Is this a natural water hole or manmade? If its manmade they can get you for hunting over bait. LOL. JK, should be a magnet. I would think midday would be good for mature bucks. How nthick is it around the water hole?

During the summer they'll flock to it, but as it cools off, deer get most of their water from the foods they eat.

Most of our land is dry from late spring till late October. Only one creek that borders our 750 acres. We spent a couple hours digging two water holes a couple years ago. One holds water year around, the other doesn't hold quite as well and was dry for the first time (this year) Sunday when I checked it. We get A TON of photos on the good hole this time of year. There is a salt lick about 15' away from the water hole and it's a deer magnet.

Don't get too overconfident. It only takes one rain to have them sipping out of every mud puddle in the forest.

I've never bought that theory myself... I've never seen a critter that didn't need to drink water. We have 3 ponds around the house and I see more deer at daylight and just before dark year round.

I hope it pays off this season. It's in the middle of nowhere so I'm hoping it's a gem that I can use to my advantage this season !
