Many years ago I was standing on top of a 36" cottonmouth while wearing my snake chaps, he struck 5 or 10 times before I could get my foot off of him.

I never knew my snake boots were supposed to protect against bites, I thought they repelled them.

Y'all are scaring the piss out of me. I have yet to get any snake boots but I think I may have to now. I have not been bitten yet but I have came close on many occasions. I had a 37" cottonmouth in between my legs last year and just about got bit. This was in December and he was in cold water though. I'm usually really careful when I am walking through the woods but I know one day my luck will run out.

Chippewa here too. Never been bit wearing them. If you spend much time in South Texas, you'll see more folks that stay in the brush daily wearing Chippewa than any other snake boot.

I have been hit by cottonmouth in both a pair of lacross and cabelas brand snake boots. It's going to happen if you hunt swamps especially with palmettos as you can't see the bases of the palmettos. I had no problems but it spooked me pretty good. It sounded like my momma hit me with a switch on boot. The other I stepped on it and it was just kind of chewing on the side of the boot. I have 2 pair of gokeys but they are not the snake version. I wish gokeys were waterproof as I would wear them as they are the most comfortable boot on the market.

I've been tagged by a pretty large cotton mouth, wearing cheap boots. Don't remember what brand but lacrosse maybe. He had a hell of a wallop on the back of my calf. I thought I had stepped on a stick that popped up

I got a 3 foot timber rattler on the back of the calf from stepping down off of a rock when on a land survey crew years ago.

I was wearing military issue black combat boots with a lingering spit shine on them. The bite did not penetrate. The snake scared the dirty words right out of me and he/she/it did not get a chance at a second bite.

I had a senior chief knock a very young snake out of my hands before that he claimed was a cottonmouth. I still claim it was an ill-tempered little banded water snake. It bit me at least a dozen times.

Never owned any snake boots.

I have Rocky`s and haven`t been bit. I do remember a little tag in the box when I bought them that said something to the effect of "they would protect against a snake bite from most north American snakes". I thought WTF when I read it. On a side note snake boot tester is number 1 on the list of jobs that I don`t want!

No bites yet thank goodness. Last year I just about picked up a cottonmouth. I still don't know why it didn't strike. He let me go so I let him go.

It be's that way sometimes.

I usually kill at least one moccasin in deer season down here every year. Never wore snake boots though.
