Is it weird for one to take a vacation by ones self? Sense my wife died in July all I do is work, go home and then to church on Sunday. I need a change of scenery and I have been offered a condo in Gulf Shores for next week at no charge. Thought about just going and maybe doing some surf fishing or fishing from the pier. Just need to do something different. It just seems strange going alone. I have one friend that was going to go but now he can't get off of work. What say you guys? And by the way it sucks being single! I sure do miss that girl.

Hawk, I am so sorry for your loss! I certainly have never stood in your shoes, but I say go. Enjoy the time off, relax, and have as good a time as you can.

GO! you deserve it. I am heading to Orlando next month and was going to hit a amusement park without the wife and kids.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Every time I have a CE class out of town, I treat it like a little personal vacation.

Have fun! I've done both Disney and Universal solo before and had a ball. No one else to have to compromise with was great. Don't get me wrong, I love to go as a family with my wife and son. But, it's nice to do solo from time to time as well...especially Universal, as they have a lot of single rider lines. Disney only has 3 or 4 in all the parks total....Rockin Roller Coaster, Expedition Everest, and Test Track off the top of my head.

Heck no. I went to College World Series, Charleston SC, and Vicksburg MS last summer by myself. Didn't bother me one bit.

Try Papa Rocco's. N of the main 3 way intersection in Gulf Shores. Mostly locals.

Register on pensacolafishingforum.com , there are a lot of us AlDeer folks on there. Lots of like-minded spirits and they often have meet-ups, usually on Wednesdays. You might can even find someone to take you fishing for a split of gas money.

Going on vacation by yourself isn't weird at all. I'm sorry about your wife's death. But that doesn't mean you stop living life. Go to the beach, try to enjoy yourself, know that you're going to be a little lonely or feel strange being alone, fish and do some stuff, probably find some AL.Deer goobers to eat or fish with.

When I was single between #1 and #2; sometimes I would just tell my big ole yellow lab, Dusty(rest his sole), to load up and we would head to the beach and rent a little house on Ft. Morgan. Very relaxing; plus the ladies love dogs.

Between wives, I've taken several motorcycle vacations and vacations in my little sports car. Now a days is seems like people are afraid to simply be alone.

I wouldn't mind taking a trip by myself now, even though I love Mrs. Irish. Sometimes is good for you to do that.

If it were me in your shoes, I would go to the coast and fish the pier each night. Nothing hardcore, just sit out there wetting my line. Catch something, great. Don't catch something, great also. Sleep all morning, get up in the afternoons, go get a good meal somewhere, get your gear together and then go fish all night. I can't think of anything better to do in solitude except sit in a deer stand.

Excellent advice. Sorry for your loss. We were down a week ago and I didn't catch a ton but we filled up a couple of sacks of bluefish fillets from the beach.

Go Man. I travel for a living and I used feel awkward going into restaurants by myself. Especially telling the hostess party of 1. I don't drink while traveling much but I always just go to the bar to eat anyway. If there's no conversation I just read Aldeer at the bar and drink sweet tea with my meals mostly.

Might be a little early, but if not get back in the game.
