Any of you guys planting chufas in hog country? If so, how do you keep the hogs out?

I think your only hope is a really good fence. My dad completely gave up growing them in Wilcox co due to hogs. They not only eat the chufas; they destroy the field so bad you need a dozer to smooth it out before you can plant the next year.
Ironically, the first chufas grown in the USA were for domestic hogs. I've got a 1930s era extension service pamphlet somewhere that tells how to grow them and says they give the pork a great flavor when finished on chufa.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

We grew them years ago in south Dallas County, but we had to put up a dang good electric fence with back up battery and a big solar charger. We had to check it regularly to make sure the fence was not compromised in any way or they would move in and kill them.
