Very few QUALITY coaches out there that AU would take and would take AU. I don't see Petrino or Briles as an option. Throw in other schools that may be looking, might be best to keep Gus! Maybe Lane Kiffin??

NDSU - Why would you leave mega-success to rebuild? He's sitting pretty, similar to Saban albeit at NDSU, winning championships, and beat Iowa on Saturday to boot. IMO he'd be crazy to leave NoDak.

Hermans - possibly could leave Houston, but they're playing strongly enough to get consideration for the expanded Big 12. Would the lure of the SEC be enough?


One thing that pisses me off is Gus said last night the offense "is a work in progress."

He's had two of these quarterbacks - White and Johnson - for two years. The third, Franklin, has been there for months. Although Johnson's on the bench now, between that and the lack of execution by the other two definitely seems to prove that whatever plays/designs/etc. the coaches are trying to get across isn't connecting with the players.

Franklin's long passes last night appeared to be "Oh, I gots th' ball? Throw it long-far-deep and hope!" The offensive line has problems pass protecting and smash-run blocking. There's no consistency. Fourth-and-3 inside the 15 with a chance to score and cut the lead, and you cannot get a $#(*@$*# first down in your home stadium?

How damned long does a "work in progress" take to complete? This is like the perpetual "we're a young team" hooey coaches and fans love to spout. But at some point those "young" players get older. At some point, this "work in progress" offense should be better. And it's not.

The common connector with all this is the AD.

Timbercruiser mentions Dye. But according to my info. Dye really pushed for Kirby and Sully and the civilian pushed for Mauled. Not sure about Bo. The 3 man (in name) search team was not the normal search committee. They had full control and not like most that make a suggestion and the AD acts on it. Whether this was JJ's idea or a big dog booster, I don't know. Supposedly it would avoid JJ being the whip dog. Looks like everybody screwed up, but possibly Dye. It ain't going to go JJ's way, though.
