The worst thing you can do is be that guy that joins a club and doesnt set foot on the property until opening day, not only bad for yourself but other members. Atleast learn the roads and what feild/stand number they lead to that way you dont piss off the old head when you drive by him on opening morning. if i was in new club and had only a month left until opening day i would be out there as much as possible.

Getting a key and permit tomorrow. Going to spend as much time as I can in the next couple weeks scouting. Luckily its about 10 minutes from where I live...so i can swing by after work and scout stuff out and learn the land.

Is there a period of time I should leave the woods alone for? Like, should I not scout a week, two weeks, three weeks before season...or just go for it?

Sounds like you are an inexperienced hunter. No problem, we've all been there. Find a member or 2 you feel comfortable with and find out what the in's and out's of the club are and what the "politics" are. Offer your time and muscle to the club. If your lucky, this club will be the one for you but more than likely, you'll move on because the club doesn't meet your expectations. They never do. Good luck and hope you have found your paradise.

My club meets my expectations. Forget about politics. If you notice there are certain politics that alienate new members go ahead and move on after this season. You have to scout on a new club you have never hunted. It's better to let things sit just before the rut than before opening day. That said, find out from members when the rut is. That's really all you need to know. The rest will fall into place.

Find you 3-4 different spots, (different winds) with deer sign. Prepare yourself for the hunt. With this being a new club, you need to learn the terrain to have Success. Good Luck
