I have no problem with rape in prisons, ought the be good incentive to stay out of there. Well, I agree with that concept as a deterrent on the face of it, but what about the fine upstanding man who all his life, paid his taxes, went to church, contributed to the community, and one day he finds one of his womenfolk raped and/ or murdered, and he apprehends and tortures the perp to death? Agaist the law, but justified as a man. That's an extreme example, but I'm just playing devils advocate here. Personally, if I was ever incarcerated, I would try to treat staff as good as possible and obey orders out of respect, but every time I laid eyes on any inmate, I would try to beat him to death, beginning with the biggest one. They would be compelled to put me in solitary, I hope. Yes, that might be naive thinking on my part. Most institutions around here are run by corporations that bid out the incarceration process.

With 3 free meals, a roof over your head, and free cable, we've got too many people that are fine with going straight back in. Some minor risk of rape, is part of incarceration.

Atoler, I don't know what the answer is. As others have mentioned, there is a segment of the prison population that is not part of any horrible crime.
I do see your point and argument, and it is valid. Generally, most folks in prison belong there.
I don't support BLM or anything like that concept, so no.

Committing a felony >prison > potential for rape >chance for hiv > eventual death. So let's not act like a large portion unwillingly end up with hiv.

That's like saying "don't do anything wrong and the police won't have to search your property". Thankfully the founding fathers had the 4th amendment to protect the innocent and allow for due process. And Atoler, I think you'd be amazed at the % of prison population that has HIV and hepatitis C. But I'm glad y'all are positive you won't ever mess up in your lifetimes.

I'm much more worried about choking to death on my dinner tonight. The chance of a generally law abiding citizen being wrongly or correctly charged with a felony, being sent to prison, being unable to dissuade potential rapisys, those rapists possibly having hiv, contracting said disease, and dying down the road, is minor in my mind, to all of the other problems we have with the prison systems and punishments for offenders.

Our government offers free stays in the United States holiday inn express and a slap on the wrist to sex offenders, killers, and repeat screw ups. Let's start by figuring out how to make it unpleasant enough for no one to want back in there. Let's literally create hell, through hard work bare bones conditions, etc. then once those problems are addressed, I'd bet your rape problems decrease as well.
I simply have little sympathy for someone who has made those kind of life choices. We can play the "what if" game forever, but the goal of any system is to address the majority, not the what ifs. I'm with ya bud. It should be a rougher life in prison, but those two issues are unrelated.
