Say hello to Albert. Albert is his third name.

When he was a spike I named him Stupid cause he would walk out past my stand a lot and sometimes literally right under me. He had a healed up scar on his left butt cheek that was pretty obvious. One night I actually threw my can call at him to run him off.

Last year he was an 8 and I hunted him hard (though truth be told he needed another year).

Early season last year he walked out and offered a perfect broadside shot at 25 yards. I drew back on him and couldn't see my pin. 2 minutes earlier and there would have been enough light.

Two weeks later I had a matriarch doe in front of me. They came in right when I was about to start climbing down. I didn't want the matriarch to know my tree so I sat and waited for them to leave right when they left Stupid comes out and walks right under me.

Couple more times he came to the edge of the greenfield and knew something was wrong and moved off.

He got the name scar because Late season I climbed up and started rattling at 4:30 one afternoon and he came running in all piss and vinegar. He stepped out at 12 yards and I passed at an easy brisket shot. He took a couple more steps I took a slightly better quartering to shot and swear I though he was toast. I even made the damn post shot video on my phone. I climbed down and found my arrow lying across two very slender branches with a few small drops of blood on the broadhead. I looked at the small scrub tree and saw where i skinned the tree enough to deflect the shot. I think it bounced off of his shoulder and just came to a rest across the branches.

He disappeared for 3 or 4 weeks and then I called him in one morning. He wouldn't come in and offer a shot though. He skirted the shooting lane staying just out of comfortable bow range. I grunted at him to try and turn him but he just stopped and cocked his ear back refusing to even turn his head.

I left mad as hell at 10am. The next morning I sat down and looked at the card from the camera at that stand with the card reader. That Son of bitch stuck his head right in front of the camera 10 minutes after I climbed down. It was like he was posing for a license pic at the dmv. Well I came on here later that night and told the story and that is when one of you miscreants unsympathetically said, "He's got your number!"

I admitted defeat and gave up on it that day. He had taken me to school and earned my respect. I shut those woods down and told everyone to stay out cause he had earned a repreeve. We started calling him Albert (as in Einstein).

Right after season I saw him on camera a bunch and he had broken off the whole right side of his antler a few inches above the right brow tine.

He had real bad scar lines all down his left side where a huge buck had beat his ass and tried to kill him.

Turkey season he walked out after his horns fell off and stood right in front of my ground blind for several long minutes at 20 yards or so.

I put a camera out a couple weeks ago and already have 300 pics of him.

Say hello to Albert Boys, He is looking pretty good this year.

What an awesome story. I hope over the next few years we don't have to move anymore and I could have some more experiences similar to that.

Best of luck to you on getting him

I feel bad for Albert. I think he's dead and don't know it.

Cool story and nice buck. I had a deer like that which I had four yrs of history with him. Believe it or not I shot him one yr with my bow and he jumped the string on me with the arrow passing right under his spine. No luck finding him then two weeks later he comes back on camera to live through that season. Next yr he's a big ol eight point and I shot his ass with my rifle only to find out my bullet deflected when i shot through all the brush. Two weeks he's back on camera with the scare of a bullet hole on his shoulder. The next yr I put my camera out and waited until it was perfect to go hunt that spot only to find my camera had been stolen. As I sit there wondering if he was still alive out his big ass stepped and I was able to finally kill him. That deer means more to me than any other. To have that kind of history with a deer is special especially when you can kill him. Hope it works out for ya.

No doubt it will be bittersweet. That feeling of respect is unlike any other.

I made a bad shot on a huge buck a couple years ago we had named, The Twin Towers. There was a river of blood so against my better judgement I started tracking WAY Early. I bumped him and tracked him for 5 hours with my buddy. We ran through 5 or 6 light sources and phones and were literally on hands and knees. I went home and got the dog even with the damn dog it was another, probably, two hours through the thickest privet and cutover you ever saw.

When we found him he was still alive and breathing heavy, He lifted them big 146" horns and just kinda laid his head down, I thought he was gonna die so I just bowed my head and said a prayer of thanks.

After a few more minutes I shot him twice in the heart with my pistol. I am not ashamed to admit that me and my buddy both were openly weeping with no shame.

He ended up almost a half mile away from where I shot him. My shot was through the guts and his intestines were hanging out, and he had a very badly broken leg.

Man it brought tears of joy to my eyes. When I ran up to him laying in the field I laid down beside him in disbelief couldn't believe it

Awww, why don't you just let the little feller go. Sure seems like he wants to be your friend, he comes running whenever you call, and the way he posed for those pictures and everything. He didn't even get mad when you knicked him with that arrow. Almost more like a dog than a deer. Yes, you should definitely just let him go. He could be your pet deer!
