My dad and I are thinking about going to Kentucky to hunt this year for a weekend, anybody have any suggestions?

Pick one and go hunt. Opening weekend or first two weeks of November would be my recommendation. I'll be there in two days.

Check out Bart Goins Facebook page. He's on Dream Season and a local guy. He's been advertising hunts for a farm in Kentucky.

Most people aren't going to just offer up info on public land. I've spent several thousand dollars, taken scouting trips In the summer, hunted maybe 20 days total between last year and this opener. I've yet to shoot one, although I've passed some I should have shot.

I took the Kentucky dnr website, Google, and decided a handful that fit the bill for me. There are current and past telecheck numbers for all public lands and the area biologists have all been very helpful. The smaller wmas that are not close to large populations of people are less crowded. The larger ones can be very very crowded. Don't overlook eastern and central Kentucky. They have just as big of deer mostly.

If you were to take two weeks straight during early November, you can likely kill a 120-130 with a bow. It's very difficult to pop in for a couple of days and have success, unless you're very lucky.

Any more tips? Which public land would you go to and what would you focus on hunting?

I prefer the cabins, but they aren't in Morganfield.

H&H is about to go to the extended rut quota hunt like the "other" popular one in that area - to keep the astronomical hunting pressure down. By next year if I was a betting man.

Great place to hunt. Mauvilla and I hunted up there together and we really enjoyed it.
