I have a good friend that acquired a nice, neglected, rifle. He asked me if I would break it down, clean, give it a once over, and sight it in. I enjoy doing this kind of work in my free time, so I jumped at the chance. While doing it I started to wonder, what would this cost if he had sent it to a gunsmith? Just curious. Thanks.

That would be a flat hourly rate, plus ammo for me. Figure out what your time is worth and price accordingly.

He gave me some ammo. I have all of the rest for the job. Not looking to charge him. But what would an average/fair hourly rate be? I have no idea.

$100-150 depending on type of rifle

There is a gunsmith close to me that seems to do good work because he told me he works on guns for local LEO agencies. He told me he charged I think about $80 an hour.
