So..what is best overall TV for the $$$

Where is cheapest place to buy them?

We want it to have smart sound, good picture, etc....but not be stupid expensive

Thanks guys

Samsung, I bout mine at Sam's. I believe it is a 60 inch. I got it for around $600 6 months ago.

I have a Visio and wish it was a Samsung.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I would expect the best price to come from either Costco or Sams's club, plus you get to view them in the store.

We have a Panasonic(Plasma - fantastic dark colors - example: Batman movies) and a Sharp Aquos(LCD - great bright colors - example: Avatar) - both have been excellent.

Our son has a Visio(LCD) - it also has an excellent picture.

One of the things to consider when choosing a TV is the placement. Will it be in an area that direct sunlight or bright lights can hit the screen. In my opinion a darker room, or at least the TV in a corner where no direct light can hit the screen will improve the viewing.

Different brands and certain options will give you more clarity/color/sharpness and all that I'm sure. But I'll say this as far as durability, the FD has a Philips that I know has been there 8 years and it stays on for 15 hours a day 7 days a week. We've never once had it flicker. And before the lazy fireman jokes come, it's on Fox News about %90 of the time. YMMV

I have 4 Vizio tv's. All LED and work great. They could crap out tomorrow but I like them.

Costco had Samsung 55" for less than 500.00 2 months ago, bet they have a 60" for not much more, have to be a member though.
Best Buy has price match and 12-18 months same as cash if you need that option.

According to the Costco man the 4K is useless unless you have direct TV or your cable co has fiber optic lines. And direct only has four channels with 4K.

I have a LG, its good. Samsung was the first one I had loved it but wanted bigger, HHGreg played a role in that and they tend to haggle I found out.

You are correct. If budget is an issue, get the 1080p and save a couple hundred bucks.

We've had a Vizio for at least 10 years and it's done a good job but occasionally now it will fade to black with dim images of whatever show's on at the moment. After 30-40 seconds it'll come back.

It has me thinking that it might have run its course. I suspect we'll be looking for a new one soon. Amazing how a 60-inch is just $600 now.

I like my Vizio and if it goes out I will not hesitate to get another one. It is on from about 6 AM to about 11 PM every day.

We have a Samsung LED at the refinery that has been on 24/7/365, other than power outtages for about 12 years now. Showing no signs of letting up, either.

Seriously...Samsung.

I've got a LG in the den and a Sony in the bedroom. I think the Sony has the best overall picture of any TV I've ever owned.

Best Buy has a good price on a good tv- Sharp, 65" $899.00 , Samsung has a lot of lawsuits against them, lots of problems on lots of their sets, my brother bought one 2 years ago one of the $2000.00 Samsungs went out last week, circuit board, so if you get a Samsung I wouldnt spend over $900.00 on one, but myself I would probally go with a Sharp.

The "Sharp" name will cease to exist in televisions sold in America very soon. They've sold out to Hisense due to struggling sales.

Vizio has also been sold to LeEco.

Keep this in mind. If you buy at Costco you can return it at anytime before ninty days. So let's say tomorrow you buy a 55 inch because it's 400.00 dollars cheaper than the 65. Then black Friday rolls around and the 65 inch is now 200.00 dollars cheaper than the 55 when you bought it. Also I was told they will go on sale unadvertised this week for labor day and football season. Just have to stop by and check.

Samsung and Sharp Aquos. If you're not going to use all the bells and whistles some of the Samsungs come with you might be able to save some money. Most come with built in wifi, Netflix, Hulu ready etc. If you're not going to use all that they do make models cheaper. I have an Aquos in our main room, it is an incredible picture, it has an auto light adjust that really works. Regardless get a 1080p. If you have stuff you hook directly into your tv, dvd, stereo etc pay close attention to the interconnects. A lot of the newer tv's don't have the connections of years past.

Actually,Taiwan based Foxconn, a huge manufacturer of Apple products, purchased a 66% stake in Sharp for $3.5 billion. Sharp is also a big supplier for Apple; thus the reason Foxconn made the purchase to leverage their position with Apple.

Yes, they have a licensing agreement with Sharp.
As pertains to quality; I have integrated 100's of Aquos displays in commercial/military applications with zero failures.
That said; I own Samsungs in my home.

we have had an LG for a few years and it has been great so far. On the 3d stuff you would literally thing whatever you are watching is in the room with you.

You should keep in mind that there is a huge size/weight difference between a 55" and 65". One person can handle a 55", not so with the 65". 65" screens are over kill for the average size den. Getting the 65" may require a much larger base cabinet or wall hanger. Bigger is not always better.

We have an LG in the bedroom that has an outstanding picture. 3d capable, and yes, the 3d is great. I did have to replace the panel on it about a year or so ago, though. TV was about 5 or 6 years old at that point. The new panel was only about $100, and it was an easy fix.

We discovered when we were tv shopping 6 months ago that LG is leading the pack technology-wise with their OLED technology. No one else has it at this time (commercially, at least) and the picture is phenomenal. If price would have not been a factor, I would have bought one without thinking twice. They are way too high for my tastes, though. I'm sure when other makers introduce the technology into their lineups, the price will adjust downward fairly quickly.

A plus for LG is that their national service center is in Huntsville

Nah...I mounted my 65" led by myself and bigger is better in the new basement den smile

I actually mounted my 65" by myself too. I only had one ladder and wanted it done. It was a beast with the combination of weight, size and how high I wanted to put it.

I went to Sams today looking and they had a Samsung 58 for 488 but it's 1080p. The best deal they had was a Sharp 55 4k UHD. Once you see the quality on the 4k sets you'll see it would be better to have a little smaller screen and the higher resolution than vice versa IMHO.

According to the Costco man the 4K is useless unless you have direct TV or your cable co has fiber optic lines. And direct only has four channels with 4K.

I did notice at Sams that they only had high resolution pictures playing in a loop on their 4k TV's but the difference is amazing. I haven't bought a TV in 10 years and hope to make it last that long again so I figure I'll go ahead and get the most I can afford.

Have had a 65" Sharp LED for 3+ years and its got a great picture and is reliable. Had a vizio before that and it was garbage. Wish I wouldn't have spent the money.

I don't agree with this. You can't get too big in flat panel TV.
