I'm not trying to sound like a internet bad ass but i'm sick and tired of having to pick up the garbage in my yard because somebody down the road can't put their dog up in the pen for one night a week.

Long story short....my wife walked out on the front porch a little while ago and came back in saying that the Lab from the road was in the garbage again. I got up, walked down to their house and finally got the guy to come to the door.

Me: Is the yellow lab your dog?

Him: Yes

Me: Can you put your dog up because i am tired of having to pick the garbage up out of the yard every Thursday night or Friday morning because your dog has been in it....

Him: Well actually that is my uncles dog but he don't live here.

Me: Regardless of whose dog it is, the dog lives here so he is your responsibility.

Him: I've done talked to the neighbor on the other side of me and we have decided that we will just call the pound to come pick it up.

Me: Well i just need you to put the dog up for one night a week (garbage night).

Him: Yes sir, i will take care of that tomorrow.

Me: No i need you to take care of it tonight because tonight is garbage night.

Him: Yea i've tried putting him up but he just keeps digging holes and getting back out.

Me: I don't think that i should have to carry my garbage back in the house til in the morning because the dog that lives at this residence keeps getting in it.

Him: Yes sir i understand...i will take care it tomorrow.

Me: I'm just asking that you put the dog up for the rest of the night.

Him: You know that isn't the only dog around here that gets into garbage.

Me: But your dog, your uncles dog, who evers dog it is was the one that was just in ours and it's the same dog that has been in it the past couple weeks.

Him: You might want to talk to the people down the road with the other dogs.

Me: Okay then....and i walked back home.

When i got back to the house, i grabbed the garbage can and started toward his driveway with it. My wife asked me what i was doing and i said "I'm tire of picking it up out of our yard so when that dog gets back in it, he will have to clean it up out of his yard".

So now my garbage can is sitting at the end of his driveway and i will almost bet that when i get up in the morning he will have garbage in his yard.

Before anyone says that i should just shoot it....I don't mind the dog coming in my yard but just keep it up on the one night of the week that everyone puts their garbage out.

I like your style. Only thing I would have done if I was pissed off is pick it up and go dump it in his yard.

Sounds reasonable. You addressed it with him and he didn't seem to care.

I like that idea. Unfortunately, tomorrow you will probably have a uniformed officer knock on your door because trash with your name on it was found all over his yard.

I'd call the pound myself.

Put a splash of ammonia in each garbage bag before putting it out in the morning. We never used cans when I was growing up... just bags on the street. When a dog gets a punch in the nose from the ammonia, he won't come back to your garbage.

A dog is gonna be a dog. Thank you for recognizing the master is the responsible party for a non feral dog and not taking it out on the dog. An attacking dog is a different story.

A fellow once told me that a metal garbage can sitting on a metal plate with a piece of plywood between them with a positive lead connected to one and a negative lead connected to the other would teach a dog not to get in the trash. I can't confirm this but my limited understanding of electricity suggests that it's logical.

I also heard how this got the garbage man also and the truck was dumped in the yard,

I just got this mental image of a poor old garbage man getting into a "hot" garbage can and it's making me laugh. Do something with the dog. Don't hurt the garbage guy. I had a half grown lab once that would not stay out of the garbage. I picked him up by the neck, stuffed him in the garbage can and sat on it while he tried to claw out. He never got in the garbage again. He was claustrophobic as hell after that though.

And I should have patented my "Cat Zapper" that used to be on my porch.

Speaking of dogs.....I've got " A DOG" in my neighborhood that likes to take a big Ole CHIT in my driveway about once a week,I just can't seem to catch him,anybody got any ideas

2. Get big containers of white and black pepper and mix together. Sprinkle along edge of property. When dog comes a sniffen around he will get a nose full of that and sneeze for a long time.

Can't stand that crap..We had a stray dog here back years ago that would make one helluva mess outta my garbage.I caught him in the field one day behind my house and was gonna burn his ass up with some bird shot....Guess I was a little to close to him...He never got in my garbage again though.

my neighbors dog used to do the same thing until i dusted him with 12 ga birdshot.

My neighbors did till I dusted it with my .270.

DO NOT run an extension cord out to the can with one end plugged in and the other stripped and wrapped around the can......seen it, it's ugly....and the trash men don't like doing that jumping jack flash dance either.

ive always heard to put clorox on the can and on top of the garbage. My yard pit use to keep the other dogs out of my can, but old age got her a few months ago.

I'm going to have to try that. I used to drag mine up to the road on my way out to work on Friday mornings. Then the truck started coming before I left for work. We complained and they said that it needs to be at the road by 6am. So we start putting it at the road on Thursday nights...and the dogs get in it. And for the past month the garbage truck will run anywhere from 5:30am on Friday to Tuesday afternoon. Pisses me off to no end.

I bet if you put a gallon ziploc bag full of antifreeze in your garbage with a small amount sprinkled around the outside of the bag that the specific dog that was getting into your trash probably would not be doing again in the future.

Had something similar happen but this dog was also acting aggressive. I wanted to neutralize the dog. LEO said they couldn't do anything. The LEO told me, "You didn't hear this from me, but if it happened to me, I would catch him at night and give him "lead" poisoning".

You really have to have pictures of the dog in the act and actually know who it belongs to. This day and time the dogs have almost as much rights as people.

A friend of mine did the same thing one day under the same circumstances. Dang dog just fell over dead.

It was a normal sized mutt running around. Guess it got him just right.

That would be sorry as hell.

Sorry as hell is not caring when a guy comes to you like a man because your animal is causing a problem on his property.

Stretch a drop cord out into your yard, rub bacon grease on it & leave it plugged in all night.

The dog or the neighbor?

Got the same problem only thing is the dog is my grand fathers. Sob got the nerve to growl at me to. His days are numbered.

My brother had an ol sorry yellow lab that growled at me every time he saw me, killed our cat (the cat was sickly, but still), jumped on my little dog and pissed on my cooler once. I gave him a pass a few times when he walked under me hunting. The niece and nephew loved the dog. That's only reason. I finally made up my mind I was through and I was going to terminate with extreme prejudice. The ol dog wandered off and I think he got hit by a car. I regret that he never got to dance with the devil in the pale moonlight.

You would be amazed at how many weekenders send their pets back to God here at the sheep farm. Between the donkey and the .22 Swift, it's a damn shame. The trash can has never really been an issue.

WHy not put some food with bacon grease out.....nothing cane refuse bacon.

My dad's sorry ass neighbors were letting their beagles run all over my dad's land during deer season one year. I went to their house a told him to lock them up or else. He said they can't be my dogs they'll only chase rabbit's. Eight of his beagles ended up gone. He came to the house and asked of I'd seen any of his beagles. I said no only beagles I saw were chasing deer, couldn't have been yours. No more problems after that,

Neighbor of mine walks his dogs like 4X a day...lets them chit in my yard usually near my mailbox...a pound of cayenne applied in that area broke them of coming any where near that part of yard...

A whole pound of it!!

It would be on his door step. In fact I would gather up a bucket full of it and dump it in his driveway or porch with a sign that says here is your dog's poop back

I used to have problems with dogs schitting in my azaleas. Went to Ander's and bought 6 rat traps and put them right under the pine straw. Cayenne sounds a little more covert though.

It must not work for all dogs. I poured a 4 oz(?) bottle of it in a hole my dog was digging in the yard. The next day the hole had doubled in size.

I asked a neighbor to stop letting his dog do that in my yard. He ignored me and jogged off with the dog. I collected poo from everyone's dogs in the cul-de-sac for a few days and left it on his front porch. No more problems from then on.

Someone's dog chits in our yard I ignore it. it'll dry up and the rain will wash it away.

Getting into our garbage, though, I'd be pissed.

I once had a dog tearing up one of my wife's plants. Added the hot stuff only to find him kicking it off

My wife went and got the garbage can and brought it back to the house after the garbage ran the next day. Either he actually put the dog up or the dog knows better than to get into garbage at it's own house but either way....i've not had anymore complaints. We will have to wait a week to see if it does it again.

I think this next time i will just put the can at the end of my driveway with one of my deer cameras out so he won't be as pissed at what the consequences will be if "his uncles dog" gets in my garbage again.

If you were closer by you could borrow my dog trap. Just place it near the garbage can with a couple of weiners in it and next morning when Fido is in it, call the neighbor and tell him if he wants his dog he needs to come get it within 5 minutes......
