much appreciate your story, irishguy. this is a powerful experience. the washing, more so. X2. I thought it hit dead center on what the symbolism of foot washing is.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Good story Irish. Your MIL sounds like my grandmother. She is also from Sand Mountain and strictly wears dresses and her hair in a bun too. Thanks. Yep she sounds like my sweet little "Momma." Y'all keep talking and you're going to be calling each other Cuz. That's because you will done be kinned up. (For those of you that are not from Sand Mountain, what I just said is If they keep communicating they are going to find out that they are relatives.) I'm going to stretch a little and say that the "Mommas" are from around the Pleasant Grove community.

Baptism is one of the most humbling things you can do. I participate in it twice a year. You've never seen men understand what being a true servant is until you've seen someone at their feet asking permission to wash them with nothing in return. It isn't a salvation issue, but rather showing a true servant's heart and compassion for your fellow brother. Glad you got to experience it and proud you allowed her to do it. I've done this for my wife and also my son when I did a "coming of age" or "right of Passage" with him. To do this you have to love your brothers in Christ.

It is a humbling experience for both the washer and the washee. I can testify to that.
I'm for anything that is designed by God to make us more humble and closer to him. That's all I need to know about the practice. Thank you for the original post and for this one - you are spot on. We do this as a church around Easter, Baptist church. We gather as a group of men to wash each others feet and it is truly amazing. The first time I heard of it, I thought it was a little weird for a man to wash another mans feet. But after our preacher read the verses of Jesus washing the disciples feet, and then washing the feet of other men in our congregation, it was truly amazing. Most humbling experience I have ever been apart of. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Different mawmaw than the one in my hunting story thread. Im hillbilly from both angles. Probably branch kin with 2dogs somehow.

My Momma's side is from Sand Mountain. Got Baptised in Brown's Creek by a Preacher in a suit.
I kinda prefer a little Strychnine buzz to the feets washin myself though.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I was raised Baptist and we don't do it at our church but I think it is a wonderful thing that she did.............awesome... This is worship!!!
It's not a Passion, it's an Obsession. That's what I tell my wife, but she promptly informs it's a disease to which is incurable.

Sand Mountain isn't just in the bible belt , it's the prong on the buckle.

Sand Mountain isn't just in the bible belt , it's the prong on the buckle. We are truly blessed to be born in America and being born in the South takes it to another level, and if you are lucky enough to live in the country I really don't think it can get any better.Muliple churchs in every community no matter how small and common sense "for the most part" in the schools.

Irish- thanks for sharing... I will too: Left for work one morning and my wife and I had sharp words as I went out the door. All the way to work I was trying to think of a comeback to her last comeback... you know what I mean. All of a sudden, I was overcome with this impression- you need to humble yourself and wash her feet. Fought it all day, but it was still there. That evening when I got home I was still rolling it over in my mind, but the feeling was no less powerful. I submitted, and did what I felt led to do. IT HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE in ME and our MARRIAGE. Just saying. Thanks Irish.

Seein' as they're clean and all...
