truedouble, post up after next season and let us know how you like it.

I only know one guy with one and he traded his back in for a gas about 9 months in. Not sure that's worth the letters I typed but I'd like to hear more about 'em.

Ticka,

I've had an EV for three years now and love it. It's a mean vehicle, I've run it thru multiple thick overgrown clear cuts at 30 maybe even 45 degree inclines with deer, stand, myself, other gear and it's never missed a lick. Three downfalls in my opinion.

One would love to see a crewcab version come out cause when I hunt we've usually got friends/family and sticking three or four grown men in one is not practical.

Two wish Polaris would come out with a hybrid for when you're not hunting it would be nice to have the gas burner option. I've thought long and hard about trading in on a bad boy hybrid but hear bad reviews from everyone.

Three battery life is not that great. If it's cold you're not gonna get more than 5-6 miles before its blinking but I kinda expected that going in prior to buying one.

However I'm a fanatic about noise and scent and all that other stuff it takes to kill deer these days so I'm very pleased with mine. If Polaris comes out with a crew I will trade it in tomorrow but otherwise will be using for several more years.

agree on the crewcab, but then again, the unit would weigh even more and would be an issue with battery life. I do wish they had the fold down back seat as an option though.

Hybrid would be nice, but then again it would add more weight. I spoke with the BBB dealer and he said a hybrid isn't a good fit unless you would use the gas more than the electric as the added weight really cuts down on how far you can go electric only...also an issue with the BBB b/c you can only engage 4 wheel drive after you crank the gas motor...poor design to say the least.

I'm having a watering system installed right now (on back order) so I will not get to test it until end of July. Will post an update then. Some really good info. on the polaris ranger talk forum if someone is interested about buying one.

Thanks for real world experience.

I'm only 6 months into my 900XP ownership and I love it for what I do. I am intrigued by the EV's though and at some point may circle back around and look at them again.

I have hunted with the EV and like many have said the battery range is FAR less than advertised. Have often wondered why you could not put a solar charger on one as I would frequently park it 2-5 hours when going to stand?

when you say far less, how many miles are you able to go on a charge and what kind of terrain are you on?

agree on the solar, but if you are parked in the woods it would do almost no good. I know there are some people that have installed solar charging systems on their buggies, but I don't think the results are what you would expect.

Just an update on my EV. I took it to the farm this past weekend and it exceeded my expectations. More than enough torque to climb the steepest part of the mnt., plenty of battery life to make it around the farm, 4 wheel drive did great climbing an extremely muddy and steep logging road and the suspension makes for a very comfortable ride, even when traveling over large rocks/ small boulders in the road. The regenerative breaking did great coming off the mnt. to the point I barely had to use the breaks.

It does have a whining noise but it's not loud enough to be a concern, even during turkey season. The only draw back is the bed rattles if you hit a large bump, but I'm pretty sure I can rig something up to eliminate the play that allows the noise.

I never did mind the winding noise the motor made. It was very quiet overall. Hope you enjoy.

Hope you have good luck with your new toy. I spent several years and a pile of money figuring out electric only would not do what I need. Now I have a Ranger for working and a 2wd a Beast electric for hunting.

Yep, an electric vehicle isn't cut out for working but can't beat it for hunting and scouting.

I thought the word was out but apparently not as they're still selling them! I can't tell you how many negative reports I have heard about the BBB. I personally owned on back in 2006 and it was the worst machine built and nothing but problems.

I have heard nothing but negative comments about electric vehicles over the last several years.

The Polaris EV has gotten some decent ratings but all others... I would not touch them. Esp the BBB!!

But when it's working, you can't beat it for hunting!!

I have a 2016 Polaris ev. I would put it up against any electric vehicle in any category.

I get the whole stealth quiet thing with the electric vehicles, but I can't get over the cost and maintenance. Batteries last 3-5 years?, and cost how much to replace? You can get a base model gas Ranger new for $8500. You park it 300-500 yards (or less depending on your situation) from your stand 60 minutes before the sun comes up and hike in and out. After you shoot something, it will go through hell and high water to retrieve the beast, and take you home. They are also a blast to play with during those maintenance trips to camp. Stealth in a vehicle may be some what over rated, I had a near miss road kill with mine while driving down an access road. Noise didn't seem to bother the 3 deer I barely missed. I see pictures on our game cameras only a few hours after I backed the Ranger right under a feeder to fill it up. Unless your drive right up to your stand, or your hunting from your vehicle, you can make the gas work for you.

Just saying.

Every mature buck is different in that some are much more weary than others, but very few are dumb. Electric simply gives me the advantage of getting to the area I'm going to hunt as undetected as humanly possible. Sure you can kill mature bucks after driving an ATV in but you also may run the buck you've been hunting out of the area... you just never know. They are pretty tough to kill on our place, so I simply want to take advantage of any thing that's going to improve my odds.

Also, I turkey hunt, so there is no comparison there.
