Have any of you installed attic fans or vents? If so, what results did you get?
I had a new roof put on in the spring that has the little vent thing along the ridge line.
House is a 1.5 story. Trying to reduce my utility bill.

Yep I had a small 12" fan in my previous (small) house and it made a noticeable difference in the little AC's ability to cool. Probably 3 degrees. I say do it.

Check the area of your eave vents to make sure of adequate inflow to match the number of ridge vents. The ridge vents are 4 feet long. Perforated vinyl is not adequate. Might need to add something from your favorite big box. Calculator here. https://www.gaf.com/Roofing/Residential/Products/Roof_Vents/Ventilation_Calculator

The thing to remember is the motor on them has a short life span so put it where you can get to it when it needs servicing.

I didn't install mine, but I know it had a thermostat on it because I'd leave the switch on all year and it would only kick on when it got pretty warm in the attic.

This house is 1.5 story and the attic space is so small and close to the roof it is just brutally hot in there. I don't think the ventilation is good enough. The upstairs unit can't keep up. I think the ductwork is getting so hot it warms the cool air coming from the air handler? I had the unit checked out and it's working good.

Had two in my house and apparently how they were wired well a $50 fan burnt down a $250,000 house. To hell with exhaust fans.

We only use ours on cool nights when we don't need the a/c running. We open a few windows and it sucks cool air through the house and it's nice. I would think running it with the a/c in it would just suck the a/c out.

Blew in some insulation and added an attic fan to our old house. Did both at the same time so I don't know which was more effective. Before, you could reach near the ceiling and feel heat coming off of it. Afterwards, electric bill dropped a hundred dollars a month and the AC could actually keep up during the heat of the day.

You're referring to a different system (at least I think so). He just wants a way to expel hot air from the attic, without any real connection to inside the house.

Your system is more like what they had in the old days before AC, and probably moves a lot more air.

Northport electric sells the motors. Mine went out this past week (attic vent fan motor). I have to purchase the motor tomorrow.

Fairly easy to replace. Make sure electricity is off to motor. Undo the wires to thermostat if it had one, and to the supply.

Undo 3 screws to electric motor from the 3 brackets. Shift motor sideways, and unscrew the allen screw holding the fan blade on shaft. Slide fan blade off shaft, and take motor out.

Take to northport electric to match, replace. Amazon had motors as well.

God Bless,
David B.
