Read on AL.com that Christian Bell was leaving Alabama. The process continues...

All schools have players that leave for one reason or another. He just didn't have "it".

Yoda says "Strong the process is in Tuscaloosa".

Seriously, I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, if you offer the kid a scholarship, it should be honored the whole four years. On the other hand, there is something to be said for the coaches being honest with a kid and telling him that he will never see the field so they are going to let him go and play somewhere else where he might see the field.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Scollies are year to year. The kids know that going in.
But, like you, I believe they are initially promised many things that don't actually happen, just to get them to commit.

Most schools have changed to 4 year scholly commitments. I believe Alabama was one of them that did this in order to show a commitment to the prospects. Still doesn't mean anything though. If they want them gone, they 'll be gone.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The guy had to know how far down the depth chart he was when he was offered a grayshirt.

the student athlete doesn't have a four year commitment to the school. they can go pro or transfer if they want, why should the school be hooked to them if they don't live up to their end of the bargin?

I agree that when a school "signs" you, it should be for all 4-5 years, AS LONG AS YOU ARE HOLDING UP YOUR END, sometimes these players decide not to put in the hard work it takes.

The other thing is that a lot of these kids believe their own hype and think they are better than they are. They play for a small school in MS, LA, AK, AL or anywhere for that matter and light it up, great stats and do real well. Get to college and start competing with these kids that were dominant in the 7A and 8A classifications for powerhouse schools in South FL, CA (basically small college programs themselves) and places like that and all of a sudden, the perspective changes drastically. How good you are is relative to the talent you are competing against.

Bell is transferring to Wisconsin and still has 4 years of eligibility left since he sat out last year with a grayshirt. Good luck to him.
