Any of y'all use kayaks to duck hunt out of? Thinking about picking one up and trying it out this year.

I've been wanting to ask this question myself. Heard of people doing it and want to find out the ins & outs of it.

If you like jump shooting ducks it is a pretty good way to do it. I am sure you could also paddle out in the marsh and set up shop and hunt over decoys, too...

Good thing is you can get to hard to access areas. Places where there is no boat ramp close by you can always sneak a kayak.

Plus you don't have to worry about your engine not starting...or running out of gas...or spooking ducks if you creep up on em.

Cons are you got to paddle. And they're slow.

This is what I use in small waters. Creek boat.

That's a nice looking rig there James Bond. What brand kayak is that? I was going to carry decoys with me on mine if I actually got one and went through with the whole ordeal. But still do both. My hunting club has a couple holes that aren't big enough for a boat but yet to big to just use waders to maneuver around it.

Depending on the size of the "holes" maybe a float tube would suit ya...

I like kayak fishing, and I like duck hunting. But I have been in the water after a john boat swamped duck hunting in 35 degree weather;and one of the guys had on waders. Not fun,we were lucky. Be safe.

It is a 9.5' Creekboat. That is the company. It is like a small canoe. It is very light. Also can put a trolling motor on it, but I try to keep it simple and it moves along fairly well. Drawback is it only carries about 300 lbs. I made a cover out of a waterproof vinyl tree stand cover, which I covered with netting and clipped grass onto. I use it like a layout blind. Had ducks and geese land right on top of me in hunt this picture was taken.

I looked at the website and like the boats. However, I'm thinking about getting a 10 foot kayak and trying it out and seeing if I am really going to enjoy it and go through with it before I purchase a bigger rig.

There was a nice camo kayak in the classifieds.

absolutely. I love to hunt, but I can't risk dying from exposure out there. I know the odds are low, but you can go hypothermic quick. Better bring a waterproof bag of dry clothes and throw in some fire making material too.

I bought a 10 foot olive green kayak today and put my take of a camp spray paint on it. I personally think it looks alright. Lol I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I've got a old town guide 119 canoe that I hunt and fish out of. Biggest thing was setting up and getting used to shooting sitting down. But you can get hidden pretty good in them. Only time I've came close to flipping it while duck hunting. I was in a beaver pond on big Wills Creek and a bobcat came in chasing a rabbit. .. # 1's put a hurting on him at 10 yards.. lol

Lol... Do you wear waders in the canoe or what kind of shoes do you wear?

No ned for waders. On the Coosa river you can't have you gun out of the canoe. So I just wear my regular hunt boots.

Where did you see that? I have hunted the Coosa before and been checked by a federal game warden and he didn't say a word about my rig.

Never heard that before either; used to duck hunt the Coosa a lot on islands and below the high water on Lay and Logan Martin on the river and feeder creeks and I was not the only one. But, never got checked though anybody could hear the shooting.
