I didn't want to derail the other thread. I don't understand with today's technology why any serious big buck hunter would not use a texting camera. I do realize they cost money and there is a monthly fee but there is a cost to checking the cameras in gas, time, wear on mode of transportation, and spooking game.

Heck, you can even hook up a back up battery now where you won't have to even visit your camera but maybe once during the season to swap cards and recharge your battery. And odds are you will ride by it at least once during the season making it easy to change.

plenty of people killed plenty of big deer for plenty of years before texting cameras (or game cameras, in general) ever existed.

I haven't found a place yet I can't get signal with our Verizon model with a booster antenna ($135).

Agreed, but that was not my point. My question was for the guys that do want to use game cameras.

Because "hey honey I'm going to checking game cameras" sounds much better than "hey honey I'm going to drink beer and screw around."

Truth!

Really though ... I suspect that cost is an issue in a lot of cases

Mine was quick to catch on that "going to check cameras" during the offseason in fact translated to "going to drink beer and screw around."

I use them, too. However, if I'm not getting buck pics after a couple days, the camera needs to be moved. I've never had any issues with checking cameras anyway.

For me with my lease being about ten minutes from the house and running around ten cameras I just can't justify spending three to five hundred dollars to get a picture of an Alabama buck or a bunch of bear pictures, but now that I am in a lease in Illinois I am looking into it.........

Mines behind my house when it's out. I'm cool with walking to check it.

I've been hunting my uncle in laws property for 3 years. This is the first year I've run trail cameras. I have learned more about the deer herd in a month of running cameras than I have the past 2 years. To me they are a must have tool. The 49.99 moultrie a-5 cameras are all I need. I enjoy checking them and seeing what deer are on the property

Most of the ones I have looked at say they need at least 3 bars of signal. That is tough to get in some places that I hunt but I am looking into one for an out of state lease that I'm in. It's definitely not like I can go up there and check them often so I thought it would be neat to see a few pics between trips. Going to check the signal when I am back up there
