Just curious.
I was born and raised in a very different culture than the US mainland.
I'll start - "things I see as normal that will get you arrested here":
1.) All the beaches are topless and around a third are clothing optional so when I think "swimming", I see people with no clothes on (yes, myself included).
2.) There are almost no public bathrooms so relieving one's self behind a bush is perfectly normal. Just be considerate and kick out a hole first and cover it when you're done.
3.) There are no age laws for alcohol....hell, there are no alcohol laws of any type. Drinking wine at 6 and liquor at 12-13 is normal to me.
4.) Picking your nose in public while talking to someone is normal to me. May not get you arrested but it will DAMN SURE cause a stir here.
5.) Walking into someone else’s house unannounced is normal to me as long as you know the person who lives there. This REALLY upset my wife at first.
6.) You never ever ever ever ever ever ask someone about religion. This shocked the living snot out of me to begin with but I have finally gotten a little more used to it. Again - not arrested but damn sure shunned if you don't answer some form of Christian.
7.) Block parties every week with everyone included is normal to me. This involved people of all colors, ages and socio economic status. This does get the cops called when it happens on a Tuesday - lol.
8.) Sharing everything and anything with friends and neighbors is normal to me. It still seems to shock my neighbors when I walk over with half a pie, a big old sandwich, half a ham, fresh fish or game or whatever. Will not get you arrested and seems to earn way more good will than I think it deserves.

I was born in Christiansted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. I lived on several islands growing up and I call Phillipsburg, St. Maartens, Dutch Antilles/French West Indies, home.

I would think a lot of those differences could be attributed to fairly small communities with little if any high density urban areas.I have noticed that almost without fail most of the real problems occurring in this world are in very densely populated urban areas. Too many people too close and the pot starts boiling. Spot On!

I know chopping people's heads off is acceptable in some culturrs but I find it distasteful. Probably just me, though.

Health and hygiene is actually far better there than in rural areas of the southeast.
I don't know what anyone means by rural vs urban - there are not many rural areas on most of the islands. All the areas people live in are very developed.

In India they just squat and crap or pee anywhere.I think that might get you in trouble here.As far as things done here at home.I think that Mexicans flying their flags all over Marshall county is a slap in the face to America.I'd burn em all if I had the chance.

Shocking and nasty, I have a couple of older black friends who will never eat any food with red sauce like spaghetti, lasagna, etc that was cooked by a woman that's not their wife or woman close to them. I asked why and they told me that some women will cook their menuastration in with the spaghetti and if you eat it, you are hooked and all you can think about is her.

Distasteful? I find it distasteful when folks from elsewhere come to America and start bashing our customs, history and culture or trying to change the Constitution because their homeland supposedly did it better and they don't like what it and the Bill of Rights affirm. If you don't like it, get out or shut up, or both.

I've been to St Maarten. Yeah they is different down there. Pretty cool folks though. Went to Tintamarre and saw 70 year old folks walking around on the beach nude. Took a couple of shots of jäger to get used to it. I never experienced true culture shock till I went to Jamaica though. That's about the only place I don't care to go back to.

I worked on St. Croix for the better part of a year in and out every two weeks or so. There is a reason why the cruise ships hardly ever stop there any more. I will say I do like some Cruzan rum though. Once you bid a project on St. Croix you have to double the rate for Island time frame of mind as well.
From the beer drinking hog's in the rain forest to the eastern most point of the US in the desert. St. Croix is an interesting place for sure. Taj Mahal performing in Fredericsted was definitely a block party.

Can't believe no one has mentioned this but here's one that's as nasty as it gets. In Mexico, the sewer/septic systems are horrible and clog very easily. Therefore, when they wipe their rump, they don't flush the toilet paper. They put it in a garbage can, even ones with no lid, that is kept next to the toilet. This is so instilled in them that many of them continue to do this here in America. I used to work for a company that had a pretty good bit of them working there as well. No matter what we did we couldn't get them to stop doing this. Finally we designated one of the four toilets for their use only and told them they were responsible for keeping it clean. We never went in theirs and they never went in ours.

I lived on a boat with an on-board treatment system for half a decade and still try to put the paper in the trash can occasionally. Especially if I've had an adult beverage.

Grossed me out. I've actually quit eating at ALL Mexican places in Gville now and go to Rosie's for my Mexican and Chili's for my TexMex.

My grandmamma's neighbor and best friend in Thibodaux Louisiana was a black lady and told her that black women will also put their piss in the pot of greens when they cook them if they think their man is being unfaithful. I remember when I was a kid that Miss LayLay wore a chicken foot necklace. She was big time into voodoo so I wouldn't ever go to her house for fear she would put a spell on me.
