The wma hogs are few and far between nowadays. They use to be everywhere but bout 5 years ago they vanished except for certain areas. The nat frst is spotty with here today gone tomorrow hunting. I've had them thick as thieves for a month then go target them and they aren't in the same zip ode.

Keep in mind that the DCNR is now actively trapping hogs at Oakmulgee, I know where three of the traps are and like Turkey Neck said the hogs are few and far between. I have actively hunted them and my method has always been to walk the creek bottoms with the wind in my face, it's an okay tactic, more luck than anything and I have managed to sneak up on a few with my bow, never got a shot though.

Good luck

I'll be back to hunting both this year. If I find them I'll let you know if you remind me. Me and n2trkys went turkey hunting a couple of years ago on the frst. If he had riffles or buckshot we could have loaded the truck. Just don't take buckshot it's a big nono though.

I personally know where 7 active traps are and I'm certain that's not all.

Not all of the traps are on the management area either - some are on TNF land.

Found some sign last year over there, but was old. With all that trapping going on may get with wardens and they may allow you to check the traps if you want a hog. Even give out your number and see if they will call you when they have one.

I know where 2 of the traps are out there. I walked all over that place (mainly TNF land) last year during deer and turkey season and only saw 1 hog and very little sign. I have a couple buddies who have killed some decent ones out there though.

If I have to guess, they are being shot from the road now.

I say that because ten years ago I would drive three hours one way, find fresh sign on the road, turn the little squirrel dog loose, shoot 1-3 pigs and go home - usually before lunch. Only did this twice a year due to freezer space constraints.

I now live ten to fifteen minutes away, hunt it for something every weekend and some afternoons and I almost NEVER see sign from the road. In places where I know there are pigs, I can walk just out of sight of the road and I will start seeing sign again.

Pigs have to be taught that behaviour.

I asked about this and was told that they donate the meat to the needy.
