I'm not sure why, but Drivebys thread got me thinking about the flags ppl fly.

When I was in college, there was a guy who lived in my dorm who had done a good bit of traveling. He had British, Argentinian, and Australian flags hanging in his room. It always bothered me.... Almost like it was disrespectful to fly those flags on American soil.

It also bothers me when I see ppl with other countries flag decals on thier vehicles.

Am I wrong ?

Depends on the intent. Maybe he traveled, broke bread, and drank a few beers with the Aussies or Brits. I spent 4 years in the UK and alot of time with Brits. My neighbors would tell me about their families experiences during WWII and getting bombed. We all worked on getting rid of Hitler. We have mutual respect. You get a common bond and would gladly fly their flag. But what bothers me is the folks who are of other countries and that is the only colors they fly in the U.S. Those are the ones who get to me.

Never bothered me - perhaps it is a heritage thing.

However, what pisses me off to no end is when a group of people (specifically Mexican) want to protest against the US, while on US soil carrying THEIR country's flag. If they love their county so much, then by all means return.

Back when Mrs. Irish and I had our Bonnevilles we attended the Barber Vintage Festival every year and bunches of our friends would come to our house for a 2 day party. We hung the Union Jack out front of the house all weekend and we flew it at our spot in the swap meet area all weekend too.

Yeah I get what you are saying, and I agree with others that it all comes down to intent. I dated a girl fro South Africa and she had their flag on her car. She loves America and living here and being a citizen, but she is also still a citizen of S.A. and has pride there too. Don't see anything wrong with that.

I have a Ugandan flag...spent lots of time there, its a good reminder.
