So that is two bears now in the last few days up here in areas where there aren't bears....Surely this isn't the same one that was tranquilized in Opelika. Did they just take it to the National Forest and turn it lose? grin

It happened on the Interstate and says there were witnesses. One was hit for sure in nearly the exact same spot about 5-6 years ago.

That's not the first time in recent history that a bear got hit near Skeegee. One got hit on the interstate a few years ago

Why don't they just leave them alone, unless they are a real threat to something.

Got an email today from the DCNR saying it was bear breeding season and they are on the move. I am shocked they sent an email about giant raccoons running around everywhere. I am more amazed that such a fat hairy creature picks the heat of Summer to get horny and go breeding.

We gonna mess around and get a season one of these days. If they's that many in town, how many in woods?

Here's a local story from Panama City in 2014 that shows just how far they will travel if they WANT to come back.

There were a couple or three instances over the last few years of this happening locally with other bears as well:

From the Cove area in Panama to Appachicola National Forest ain't like just walking to the mailbox.

Like Fred said. It's Tuskegee. Fat hairy creatures get horny over there the hotter it gets.

What does it mean that it transpired or was that an autocorrect from transported?

They said they tranquilized it and relocated it somewhere.

I hunt in the TNF and in Lee county near both sightings, and have never seen a bear or any sign of a bear. I think we're still pretty far from a huntable population.

That's kinda what I was thinking as well. Why not just let it be. It's not like they did it any favors by taking it down and dropping it off by the interstate. grin
