Wanting to spend under 1k.

Is it worth going to Southland or wait for Mark's to have a sale?

Get one with at least a 60 minute fire rating. The higher, the better. $1000 won't get you much in a new one but you can probably get a higher quality used LIberty, Browning or Fort Knox in that price range.

Call Southland.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

There is a Winchester Ranger 19 at BPW for $969. It has an hour fire rating. My issue with that is that my dad bought the same thing 3-4 years ago for 650-700 from same place.

Buy one 5 times bigger than you need and thank me later.

That is the honest truth. When you first get it, you will think of the stuff that needs to go in it other than guns, like documents and so forth. Seriously, talk to Southland about a trade in they may have first. I've heard countless guys on here rave about them.

Southland is open every other Saturday. It would be worth your time to try them again.

Several on Craigslist; including a Fort Knox.
That's where I found my Browning.

Southland is definitely worth the trip and time. He quoted my coworker a cheaper delivery price to Hoover than Simmons or Marks.

I'll call them this week. The trade in deal sounds interesting.

Be careful when buying a used safe. It's best to buy from a dealer because you will get some kind warranty with it that way. If you buy from an individual and it quits when you get it home, it could cost you more to get it open than its worth. This is just a thought, though.

And thanks for all plugs from guys above we try to make people happy

I didn't consider getting the damn thing in the house. I bought a Liberty Franklin 50 from Marks, got them to load it on my trailer. Made it back home to Montgomery and called 5 or 6 buddies to help me move it. Quickly realized that wasn't happening. Ended up paying a lock & safe company a couple hundred dollars to get it in place. Also, don't let them lay it on its back, whatever you do. That was half the battle.

Best money you can spend is to have someone deliver AND place the safe in your home, in my opinion.

PSA...

Before you lock all those documents up in the safe, scan them, along with special family pics, etc., and put it all on a flash drive. That can be stored somewhere else safe, off premises, in case your fireproof safe fails you...you'll still have access to numbers, information, pics, etc...

Picked up a Dakota BD28. Great experience. I will definitely use them again.
