What’s your opinion? Would you be in favor of making deer season shorter where you hunt? smile

Only if they took out the time between Thanksgiving and maybe the 15th or 20th of Dec. to all hunting.

Yes. IMO take a month away and I could live with that.

How would you figure that it's too long?

Yes. I also think that the trend coming from the DCNR should include zoning the state into areas where people who only want to shoot a large buck maybe every 5 years hunt, and areas where people who define "trophy" differently hunt. That should provide some interesting data.

I don't think many of you hunt every day some ,some mebe 50 % . so at that, 35-40 days, mebe takes out a deer in 30 -40 days, mebe 10 deer a season or less 3 or 4,not all areas are not short on stock, so I believe we need a good harvest count some how before we hang our selfs. we all cant travel all over to hunt, my thought.

My favorite parts of season: thanksgiving week, weekend before Christmas to New Years and last 2 weeks. I bet if I studied my harvest log, at least 75% and probably more have been during those time frames.

No. Glad they added the 10 days in February. The majority of "working" people only get weekends and some holidays to actually hunt, add that in with bad weather and other things that come up and I bet the average hunter probably spends 10 or less days actually getting to hunt. This year my son will be 8 yrs old. Last year we spent a fair amount of time in the woods together and had some very enjoyable times. Lord willing I hope we get to again this year, but if work continues to be like it is for me I can see much less opportunity than last year so the added days will maybe give an extra hunt or two for us. I believe deer hunting laws should be geared for the benefit of the people not the optimal success of the herd. Unless there are clear problems being caused to the deer herd then laws should be liberal to allow the hunter as much liberty to make decisions to benefit his desires for hunting as possible.

I don't think it's too long or too short. I do know that if something doesn't change with the harvest and habitat, in our lifetime, we will see places in Alabama that don't have a huntable population of deer.

People defining trophies differently has nothing to do with Zones

His post may have been one of the more unrealistic I've seen on the subject smile
