No, those officers are not with ice. That is the jefferson county drug interdiction TASC force. If you notice, there is often a sheriff's car there too. They are paid by Hoover, but they are assigned to the TASC force. They report to the DEA office in Birmingham.

Yes, there is usually a county sheriff with them or a few miles down the interstate.

They're looking for people that buy and sell lots of guns.

Those guys are usually looking for a specific vehicle that is already being followed by an unmarked car or one they know is coming based on other investigation. They wait for it to pass, then follow and when they commit a traffic violation they stop the car.

No, they are don't as a whole. Those officers are TASC force officers. They are specially authorized for the entire state by the DEA.

They do have agreements with other municipalities to which they can work on their behalf when needed for such things. (at least that's what one of the guys that does this told me)
