My Straight Talk (walmart) Iphone is on Verizon towers.
$45 per month for unlimited talk, unlimited text and with 5GB of data at high speeds, unlimited at a slower speed.
Same plan with 10GB data is $55 a month.
I'm happy...... damn, that is a good deal

Your friend may think they are using WIFI. The lady at the Verizon store I use (not a corporate store) told me if your WIFI is slow your phone might not use it. Even if you have WIFI turned on, it will use the 4G. Tell him to ask the store rep how to force it to use WIFI when available. Have him check into that.
Verizon plan I have is $20 per phone per month plus data. Right now we buy 3GB or 4GB, and if we get close I get a warning. I can either purchase more data at point for $10 or $15 per GB or chance going over.

If an elderly man is paying for 4 phones, it sounds like 2 of them are likely for teenage grandkids. That kind of usage doesn't surprise me at all. Our company secretary noticed a spike in our company usage. It turned out a company employee had moved, didn't have wifi yet, and was watching Netflix with his phone. I've heard the largest data users are streaming music and movies.

We have three smart phones and an iPad on our plan with At&T and we have a 30 GB plan with rollover (whatever is left over this month rolls over to next month, but is only good for the next month). Normally we don't use more than 10 a month, but if I go to my parents we are not on wifi so we use more.
When our oldest son was still on our plan, we routinely ran over every month (he paid his part of the bill and the overage) but he watched lots of videos and they eat up a lot of bytes.

I've been having a discussion with an elderly friend of mine about data usage. He can't seem to grasp the fact that he has some serious issues going on with his phone/phones. I have 4 smartass phones on my plan that I pay for. I pay $235 a month and that is with 12gb of data. No teenagers although my wife stays glued to it at times. Well my elderly buddy also has 4 phones with Verizon and pays $800-$1,000 a month because they use approx 60gb per month. REDICULOUS I know! I'm trying to explain to him they must have some apps that constantly run and drain their data because he claims they use wifi more often than not. My question to y'all is how many phones do you have and how much data are you using.
Before you answer;
QUAILMAN no need for you to reply, just get back to pissing your pants. and for those of you that pride yourself for living in ancient times by not having or using a cell phone, we've heard it all before. Blah blah blah
Sounds like somebody is watching a lot of videos. Its possible one or some of the phones are being used as a mobile hot spot. Possibly Since Direct tv is being offered on mobile devices a lot of people are smoking data. In a nutshell i would set a limit on each phone or at least contact the provider and see which phones are using the most data. Then give them the bill and give them the option of paying for it or turn their data completely off. One more thing to check is google plus. It is automatically set to upload anything you do with your phone, like pictures and downloads. This uses a lot of data. Customer service of the provider can walk him step by step on how to disable any automatic cloud updates and uploads
