I employ about 40 people in a pine shavings mill in NE Georgia. Ten are Hispanic. Six are white. The rest are black. Turnover among the Hispanics and whites is near zero. Turnover among the blacks is almost 100% every year. It is getting harder to find young men who actually want to work. But it is even harder to find young men who know HOW to work. In the past month, I received applications from four different African American men in their early 30s. None finished high school. None EVER held a job! I could not run my business were it not for honest hard working Hispanics here on work visa.

Rant over!

I have a neighbor/customer who owns a large scrap shredding facility here in Pensacola. His business is the exact same way, the Mexicans keep it going.

I will say that nowadays, pay is the biggest factor in who you will find willing to work.

I have trouble finding good guys in certain markets for $15- $18 an hr which seems like dang good pay to me. Plus our guys get tips often as well. I can remember working for $7 an hr when I was young.

I had the same problem finding people for 14-15 an hr..and the work was inside the plant...I to worked for $5.35-6 an hr and literally had to dig ditches(by hand) to lay wire and conduit...I don't miss those days at all.

It is almost impossible to find young people that have even a tiny bit of work ethic these days we run through them like crap through a goose.. WHEN they show up for work you have to stay on top of them just to get them to move let alone work, we get one or two every now and then that work good but they are not the norm..

I feel your pain. I really struggled with retention with AA males. They usually just want to work long enough for beer and cigarette money and then just all of a sudden didn't show up. I would take one Mexican for every three AAs.

A huge problem that I see these days is that nobody thinks forward to the next little move to be made when involved in a task. An entire operation can be shut down by the nonthinkers.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I pay $14-$24/hr. Several of our Hispanic employees have completed the necessary steps to become US citizens. I have the highest respect for anyone who works hard, pays their own way, and does not want government handouts.

A lot of the work ethic is defined in the culture they were raised in.

I don't like illegal entry into the US, but give me a hard working crew of Mexicans over some of our indigenous cultures anyday who see sitting around or stealing as the norm.

Most Mexican worker groups I've had the pleasure of knowing and spending time with are fiercely loyal and hard working.

This is how it's supposed to work.
Come to America on a work visa, apply for citizenship, learn the language, take appropriate measures to become a citizen.
I am not anti "Mexican".. I'm anti illegal.

dang, they must have really liked you. I bagged groceries at a winn-dixie for $1.15/hr. in mid 60's. I did manage to save enough to buy my 1st car, a 1957 Pontiac Chieftan. I think it was $600. New 2 tone yellow/white paint and had a 348 v-8, about 300 hp. It was a thing of beauty, I'd love to have it today!

THIS, EXACTLY.

Yet this is what the libtards call "bigoted" or "racist," and those who keep screaming about "we need a pathway for them to become citizens" are so incredibly stupid. We already HAVE a way for them. it's called naturalization.

All of the "I got paid $0.50/hr" stories kill me. All the credit for y'all for working, but fifty cents in 1965 is not fifty cents today. laugh
