Isn't it legal to hunt with a decoy? Got a friend telling me otherwise. I can't remember now.

you bees believing wrong.... grin legal as all hail, always have been.

I've used em a bunch over the years just to see how they work. VERY mixed results. The decoy has run off several deer, some just circle way out and leave, a few come in and give ya the shot ya see on TV...but not many.

I don't use one because I don't want to get shot at. I'm sure there's a safe way to do it but I don't want to fool with it.

^^^^^ There you have it. Legal. I've never done it but I hunted with some guys in Ohio that used them with good results. They had good video footage.

As i've said before, deer in Alabama, have a different behaviour pattern than deer on tv. Legal, and always has been as far as i know.

I agree with you, but my guess is that Alabama deer act different for one primary reason, pressure. There are probably places in Alabama where the deer in Alabama act like the ones seen on TV.

I've killed deed using a archery target. I got a Montana silhouette I've killed a couple using as well. More of a fad I'm thinking. Fun to watch how deer react when they see them. But wouldn't use them on a regular basis.

Yea the ones at the zoo seem pretty laid back. LOL

Set a doe decoy up and pour a bottle of Tinks69 on its tail.

Most of the bucks I’ve ever seen with any age on them were far more skiddish than curious. The only exception being a handful that were pissed off wanting to fight. Just playing the odds I think I’d rather leave the decoy at home for target practice.

I should add that the camera footage I've seen was during the Ohio archery season when the rut was taking place. It certainly worked for drawing them into bow range. Most of the Alabama rut takes place during gun season, so yeah, I see little need for them here.

My dad swears by them in the Midwest, he says about 1/2 the Bucks that see it, come running in, the other half pay no attention. Have to shoot them fast when they get in range though. He's got video of a 10pt he killed trotting in from about 300yds off

Yep. Some act like horny teenagers around a cheerleader and others act like Richard Simmons not caring about anything. It's fun to watch.
