Note the lower right hand corner where it says "Beginning this fall, Alabama hunters will be required to check deer and turkey through the Game ". So is this final?

Yet the flyer has a link that takes you here:

http://www.outdooralabama.com/game-check-and-harvest-record-information

and it is specifically referred to as voluntary.

Look at the season dates.
Voluntary game check began during 15-16 season.
Mandatory game check begins this upcoming season 16-17.

I spoke with two GW's last weekend and they told me that it would be mandatory to use the Game Check system this fall.

You will have 48 hours to call in and get your conformation number. There will be an phone app available too.

Also, they said the corn rule didn't go in affect this year. The law is, you must be 100 yards away and the corn/feeder must be hidden by natural vegetation.

Would be good for the DCNR to announce this publicly if it's to be in effect this season.

central ala,
So, IF it is mandatory, will we still have to carry that silly @$$ piece of paper? They will have all deer info on record with a number and would only serve to write tickets...like it does now. Especially if you have 48 hours to get a number (which for me, IF IT HAS TO BE DONE, that is a fair time frame).

So does this mean we are hunting into Feb 2017 statewide?

Big push to get this info out to the public over the next two months. There are at least 3-4 meetings per district coming up, the first one in D1 is in Jasper at the Bevill State Campus Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.

I think I was at the same meeting as BGH. If so, one of the wardens addressed the crowd. As BGH said, we were told it will be mandatory. We were also told we would still have to do the form and the extended season is going to take effect. We were also told raccoon and opossum will be open to hunting all year, but not trapping. Trapping will have the same season as now. Squirrel season also gets stretched Into March. Turkey hunting was not mentioned. This was from a QDMA Field Day. If others were there and understood differently, please correct me.

Same spill I heard Turkey. I actually asked them for more detail after lunch.

Regarding the license, they told me that the license will be the same but there will be an additional line to put the conformation number.

Kids and adults over 65 will have to call the GW office and get a "hunter ID number" and give that when you call a deer in.

Those that carry a license whether lifetime or yearly will use the license number when they call a deer in. This applies for does and bucks.

Season state wide is oct 15 - feb 10.

I'm pretty dang sure that raccoons can be trapped on private lands with no closed season just like coyotes and hogs after this regulation is signed. You can do it now with a permit. The new regulation removed the need for the permit. Not sure why they said it would only include hunting. I'm confused.

I specifically asked the officer if the season change was for hunting and trapping or hunting only. He responded that the change was for hunting only, that the trapping season was not going to change.

This is incorrect plain and simple.

I'm not arguing the validity of whether it's true or not but that is exactly what he said.
