At what age did y'all get your kids bow hunting? I have a 5 year old and he loves to go hunting with me and was wondering if it was to young for him to hunt with a crossbow this upcoming season.

No reason to have a kid that young hunting with a weapon other than maybe a bb gun. Take him with you for the next couple years and let him observe, learn a few things.

depends on the kid. My grandson went along with me, or my wife, from age 1 on, in the woods near every day with me. Called his first gobbler up at age three, killed a deer at age three with a 243. Killed a deer or hog every year since. Outshot his momma at the fair when he was not quite three years old. Not yer everyday kid for sure....

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Definitely depends on the kid. My son just now turned 5, he has hunted with me off and on for several years, he went a good bit when he was 3 but wasn't really into it. This past season he really made some strides towards being a woodsman. He started noticing tracks, rubs and scrapes. He would go ask me to go every morning and afternoon. He got very good at picking out deer slipping through the woods. He checks coon traps with me religiously, and he normally gets to take the shot.

I almost called up his first gobbler this past spring (right before he turned 5), but I couldn't get it closer than 40 yards.

I plan to see how he handles a crossbow this year. And I plan to see how he handles a .300 blackout AR. There is no doubt I am blessed to have hunt with me.

I don't think that's too young at all. I'm not one to say, do this or do that...nor do I care how anyone else parents their child. I have plenty of faults of my own and with my children. However, I've had mine tagging along since they were 3. They both killed their first deer at age 5. I teach them woodsmanship; it's not just a let's go out and shoot something outing. With that said, both of them had to prove to me that they were accurate at the range before I would trust them to shoot at a live animal. A lot of reps with a .22 and proper gun handling was a must. We didn't shoot the first deer that walked out and I'm trying to teach them to be good stewards of the land. They help with off season work and help plant plots. They are 9 and 7 now and they are begging me to go and drive me to get out of bed on mornings I'd rather sleep in. The most enjoyable memories I have with my kids are in a stand or in the field.

Enjoy every second you have with them and make lots of memories! thumbup

Wise words above. And I'll echo that it depends on the kid. Friend of mine's little boy got a doe with a crossbow from a ground blind last season (5 years old) but then there are grown men that I wouldn't trust around a weapon. My oldest (6 years) has his own little bow and is pretty good with a .22. Working with him this summer to see how he progresses towards pulling the trigger on his own...(on his own meaning with me right there beside him).

It's all up to you. If he's ready, go for it. I was slinging arrows at them from a real bow, not much older than him.

You may want to consider a Caldwell field-pod. Paid less than $80 for mine. It could help with accurate shot placement, would make handling the crossbow around eaiser in most cases, and should increase safety. I'm pretty sure they will work with some crossbow models.
