When he's YOUR fired up Cajun. I took my construction manager to a meeting with a guy that is insanely rich that we are doing a job for. In typical rich guy, prick fashion, he wanted to try and renegotiate the agreed upon price, AFTER contracts have been signed and work had started. Even though we had our bases covered, I realize that meetings like this are had in a way that the other party thinks they are going to get somewhere. As the man asked why he should pay so much for labor, I started explaining the process, breaking down the costs. When I got finished talking, my construction manager, who was pretty fed up with the guy by now, spoke up and said in a loud voice, "because you f***ing signed the contract agreeing to it, that's why!" The guy couldn't have been more shocked if he had been slapped. Long story short, work continues at our price. grin

At first I thought this was going to be about James Carville preparing to help Hillary defeat Trump. smile

That's a perfectly good way to not work for or have another contract with that "rich guy" or anybody that he associates with, but to each his own!

Biting your tongue ain't fun, but it sure beats starving!

Realize too that you don't know the details of who this man is or what the situation is. Personally, I would have been fine not taking the job but that isn't my call.

Yep, some folks work a lifetime and still don't understand that you don't necessarily want every job that comes along. Easy jobs working with reputable people get really good prices. Tough jobs doing work for people that have tried to shaft you will result in premium pricing next time around.

You are right but there is a business way to handle things and well there a wrong way to handle things. Future work always get priority! And it is ALWAYS easier to get work by good referral than bad referral. I don't think anybody from this site goes running out to a business that gets bashed by somebody on here for poor customer service.

Well im sure the rich prick had a reputation of his own and may not be able to get the quality of work you'd think just cause people don't want to have to put up with him. If they agreed in writing on details of the job and both signed then that's it. He shouldn't be trying to negotiate the costs after its already been hammered out.

so many of these guys are just used to people caving in to their money. if someone actually stands up to them and calls them out on it, you then gain their respect.

There are days I have to bite my tongue and I will to a point. But when they start that crap with me about my money after we have signed a contract I have no mercy on them !

A man is only as good as his word or his WORK

I tell my guys do not get into a argument with our customers Let me handle that

Probably will screw you on the money anyway knowing that taking him to court will cost you more than it is worth. At least that is my experience with people that start off like that. The last payment will either be short or take forever to collect.
