The deck thread got me thinking about my screened porch project and the cool tool we been using. It's a Paslode propane framing nail gun. It's one hell of a tool. You cats that build and repair a lot of shooting houses out in the woods owe it to yourselves to get one. They make nailing boards together fun. Only complaint I got is we run through a clip of nails pretty fast. Told dad we needed nails on a chain like a 50 cal machine gun.

PS it's for framing not deck building. I'd recommend screws on a deck as others have mentioned.

Really makes it easier to build a shooting house on-site too

I've had gas framing and trim guns for 20 years and they work great . Still like air on big jobs.

We have two framing Nailers used them when I built privacy fences for the public loved them after me and my brother quit doing that for the contractor we was working for(he didn't like paying what we was owed) we use them now for fencing around the farm or barn repair because some barn we have don't have power in them. You can build a corner on a field fence quickly by your self or my bother shoots snakes with he'said become pretty accurate with it lol

I've had one for about 15 years now. It's paid for itself many times over in time savings. I also have the Paslode roofing nailer that I bought for doing a Hardie Board siding job. It's a winner too.

Paslode's are great guns when you don't have easy access to a compressor. I've used them a ton of times.

Instead of those little Paslode propane canisters why not retrofit one to use one of those coiled up air hoses and hook it to a 20lb propane tank wink

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Who wants to lug around a hose and 20lb tank? Better yet, figure out an adapter that will allow refilling the little canister from a 20lb tank. I'd have to have every single board pre-cut and waiting on me before I could use up a fresh fuel cartridge in one day.

Every time we bought a box of nails it came with a fuel tank but most of the time one tank would last almost two boxes of nails

Never liked them. The ones I used were the black paslodes in the early 90s. They may be better now but the first ones were always misfiring and battery kept falling out. Slow for a lot of framing and sheathing work as well. They have their place I guess but I never liked them.

We have several of them collecting dust lol. New ones are better but we have one that still has some misfire issues, but the good definitely out weighs the bad..

I was thinking it would be more of a "hold my beer and watch this" moment.

This one is orange rather than black. It hasn't misfired but a quirk I've noticed is that you get down to just a few nails in clip and it don't want to shoot. It likes a full belly. I figure that's a spring tension issue or something of that nature.

You may be one of those guys that doesn't read owner's manuals. I believe it specifically states that it prevents firing once it's down to 5 nails or so. It's to keep you from dry firing it which could ruin it.

I am looking into getting one to do finish work with. I have a lot of baseboards to do.

I didn't have a manual. It's my dad's gun. I'll be happy to tell him that though. It sure quits at 5 nails. Glad to know that's natural. But I probably wouldn't have read manual if I had it.

We've had a few of them for a long time. One thing I learned about them is that the gas cartridge have an expiration date on them and it really does mean something. Try using an old gas cartridge and they don't work worth a flip.
