Is now a good time or is it too early or what? And if I put them out does it have to be on their trails or can it be off them a little since they can smell it. I've been thinking about one by a running creek.

I usually start putting mine out now. But they usually don't start using them rightaway. Maybe by the end of this month. Water within 100 yards is a plus

Yes close to a creek is good! They can be anywhere I place them in areas I like to bow hunt, to try to help funnel them in my direction alittle...

At our club as I am sure is true with other places they use them year round.Spring and summer they are more active but I get pics of does and bucks year round at the licks.

Mine has turned into a pretty good hole in the ground. They must be liking it.

This is when I start putting mine out. I like 50-75yds off of a trail and near water is definitely a plus...

I put a trophy rock on a trail the day after the season ended and got hits on it within 24 hours. I checked it a couple of weeks ago and it is down to about the size of a tennis ball.

I know this has been covered but what do y'all like other than trophy rock? Do you use minerals AND a trophy rock? All I've ever used is deer cocaine and trophy rock. Thinking about putting some bagged minerals out.

All I ever use is trace and a couple boxes of arm&hammer every 3-4 months. The arm&hammer seems to put the lick on turbo boost.

This is my mixture for a 200 lb. batch:
50 lbs. of white stock salt
50 lbs. of Dicalcium phosphate
100 lbs. of red trace mineral salt

Ratio mix 1:1:2

Easily obtainable at any feed store for approximately $35 and they absolutely love it!

You have a good mix.......except no need for the white stock salt. Red trace mineral is 90% or more salt.

The mix I've used for 25 years or more is 2 parts red trace to 1 part di-cal ( 50 lbs trace mineral plus 25 di-cal). No need for baking soda , Kool-Aid , nanner pudding or anything else either.

I have been using tag out for several years with extremely good results. The deer have been hammering them for about a month already now and they usually use them till the first of November pretty regularly. Tag out also has alot of minerals in it vs trophy rock and some of the other blocks are mostly salt.

Deer will definitely use mineral licks. Bucks are tearing mine up right now. I'm using the last recipe listed here: http://whitetailhunting.info/whitetail-hunting/5-ways-how-you-can-make-deer-attractant-diy/

Feed ad seed or co-op should have the trace in stock, if they don't have di-cal they should be able to order. If they can't find di-cal they should find another line of work.
