I have never had any kinda problems outta my back at all.Today I moved our camper down here by my house. It usually stays in the back of my field where I have power but I had the power cut off back there and I was gonna put a 50amp plug by my house so I could plug the camper up here at home. We'll I disconnected the wires at the pole and started pulling the old wire up outta the ground that ran from the box to the plug cause I'm just gonna reuse it all.Got about 12ft of it pulled up outta the ground then bent down and was getting it out from under a Lil deck it ran under.I was straining some getting the wire outta the ground but nothing I haven't done a hundred times.Anyway when I stood up from getting the wire out from under the deck something happened in my lower back that bout near put me back on the ground. It was all I could do to get to my truck and back home. The last few hours I been layed up with a heat pad on my back and it is hurting! It's not to bad when im laying here being still but when I start to get up holy hell it hurts and bending over for anything is completely outta the question.I guess I maybe pulled a muscle or something somehow.I know one thing I'll definitely look at folks with back problems a lot different now cause this is awful and Im sure it's very minor compared to alotta folks with serious back problems.

You might want to try ice on that and go to a chiropractor tomorrow.

I pulled a muscle in my lower back one time and was absolutely useless. I haven't felt much pain that equates to lower back pain. Get well and good luck.

I had a friend that just picked up a bag to put in the truck and the way that he turned when picking it up slipped a disk. He couldn't hardly walk and ended up having to have surgery to repair his back. The slipped disk was putting pressure on his spinal chord and causing thespian and numbness down his legs. My back is wrecked as well from flying helicopters and carrying too much weight my whole life. I would ice then heat then ice and go see a doc in the morning if it isn't any better.

if you think it is muscle related, stand under the shower as hot as you can stand it...or better yet, soak in the tub in water as hot as you can stand.
nsaid's and anelgesic with a soothing whiskey drink to take your mind off of it. sleep on the firmest mattress you have...if you can manage to sleep.

experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

Chiropractors may help. He x-rayed said I had a tight pulled muscle. He poked and beat and vibrated thing all over. No help. The pain was ok while standing and walking but lying down was unreal pain in my left leg and lower back. I had a MRI it showed a herniated disk #4. a x-ray wont show a bulging or herniated disk. I had surgery a year ago and still have some pain. Take care of your self and good luck with your back.

wet a large towel and squeeze out excess water then put it on your back and lean back onna heating pad as long as you will.I have always healed back strains that way and it works for me.Soaking the towel in epsom salts will help too.Cold packs may be advisable but never worked for me.

Pain to one side = pulled muscle most likely = MD
Pain in the center = disk = chiropractor

Go to a good chiropractor. I strained my back last week. I hobbled around for 2 days. Went to the chiro, and was fine when I walked out. The way to find a good chiro is to walk in and tell them your back is hurting but don't tell them where. If they figure it out and fix it, they're a good one. If they ask where you're hurting, walk out.

I don't have to tell mine anything. Within 2 minutes he's figured out where I'm hurting and has me back in working order in just a few minutes.

Go on to a Doctor and see what's going on. They will probably give you muscle relaxers and tell you to take it easy several days. But only your Dr can tell you for certain what's going on.

I feel for you. I suffer from chronic lower back pain and it's something you can't understand until it happens to you. Hope it's just a muscle for your sake. Vertebra problems are never good.

Definitely sounds like a job for a Back Cracker to me. Forget the MD on this one.

Bad advice. Go to an MD first. Find out what it is (nerve or muscle) first before trying to treat it. If the pain doesn't radiate down your leg, it is likely a pulled muscle which is the better of the two options. Heat, muscle relaxers and rest are your best friends. If it is the nerve and it isn't better in a couple of days, check with a chiro. He'll probably pop it and put you on the rack to stretch it out and relieve the pressure on the nerve.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I can tell ya from personal experience that both a doc and a chiropractor can screw your back up more. Just do everything you can to relax your back as stated above, in the morning, do your research on both and make a decision that bests suits you. Hope you get well soon.

After you go to the chiropractor and get readjusted get you some Bio Freeze from him. It's not sold at the drug stores. This stuff works with some naproxen sodium. I've had bad back problems for the last thirty years. Was so bad one time I would have to crawl to the bathroom and could only sleep in the fetal position. You also need to learn to work smarter not harder. Save your back and slow down.

Hate to hear that, back pain is no joke. I had, what the doctor told me was a strained muscle back when I played football. Had a collision during practice and it felt like you drove a couple of nails into my spine, right between the shoulder blades. Finished practice up, and gritted my teeth for the next two days. Could barely move and finally went to the doctor. He said it was just the muscle. Gave me some pain meds and went on my way. About a year later, it was still bothering me, although not as piercing of a pain, so I had it checked again. Turns out, I had strained a muscle, but also had a straw fracture. Moral of the story, choose your doc carefully

I have a broken vertebrae and use chiro first, spinal block second. Keeps the pain away until I retire and get surgery.

I feel your pain. I bent over to lift up the gate on a utility trailer. Did it hundreds of times. This time, POP, and down I went. My best relief was to lay on the floor and put my legs over a chair. Do it for one hour a couple of times a day. Alternate between heat and cold.

Trox, I have treated folks with similar conditions for years. Like some others have said, ice is best during the first 72 hours. Think about this. If you are watching sports and someone get hurt, you don't see them on the sidelines with a heating pad! Ice is mother nature's anti inflammatory medicine. I have my patients to ice for 20 mins on/40 min off as many times as the possibly can for the first 3 days. After that, they do a contrast of ice/heat for the next 3 days. After one week, the heat onLy. It sounds as if you have pulled a muscle but hard to tell without an exam. There are some muscles back there that attach to the vertebra and the disc. If these muscle are in spasm, they can mimic a herniated or bulging disc. Other the counter antinflamatory meds such as ibuprofen or naproxen can help as well. One of the biggest things you need to do, once over this episode is to concentrate of stretching your hamstrings. There was an article that came out around 2005 that said 78%+ of all low back pain could be eliminated through proper hamstring flexibility. The hams cross 2 major joints (hip and knee) and kinda acts as a return spring to help us stand back up. When we bend over to pick stuff up the hams usually limit how far we can go. When we push further, we end up pulling our backs. Pm me for any more info. Be glad to help where I can. I have been a practicing Chiropractic Physician for 15+yrs. I cant walk on water, but most get better with conservative care.

Went to the doc.He pretty much just told me the same thing yall have said.He said take it easy and if it wasn't better in 7-10 days come back and he'd do an x-ray so that he could send me for an MRI.I figure I just pulled or stretched something and it'll get better as long as I don't overdo it.I haven't used ice yet cause this heat pad feels so damn good but I'm gonna stick an ice pack on it and start alternating.Appreciate all the advice

Glad you're feeling better. Ice always good right away first 48. I did the same thing lifting a large full cooler by myself. Hurt like hell but it was gone within a week. If you can get some Biofreeze use that or similar product made by Biofreeze that Walmart carries. Forget name but has Biofreeze on label. That stuff works. Getting old sucks. Lol.

he's right...you will become more mindful of your lifting technique (with legs, not back). may not be until after the next "reminder" aka strain. there are times when i sneeze and feel my back pop and i know it wasn't my back popping, but muscle fibers/scar tissue straining. most likely when under work stress.

stretching is very beneficial

good luck and ....no sudden movements!!

This is the correct answer. My buddy and I both have L5 S1 issues and stretching hamstrings on a regular basis helps keep things quiet. He taught me this trick several years ago and happens to be an orthopedic surgeon.

I tore then tendons in my back and the doc said use ice packs on it for better healing. Heat makes you feel better but doesn't help that much. I thought I could do anything and now being bent over all day welding and doing the strong back weak mind crap I am in pain all day everyday. Like stated above once your back is hurt it will always hurt.

Ice for 15mins a few times a day. Ibuprofen. And lay on your back in the floor with you're legs on the couch at a 90 degree. That's what helps me when mine goes out.

Like Jeff said when the pain goes away start stretching do toe touches and any thing else that will stretch your back and leg muscles, I have to do this everyday or my back goes out by just bending at the waist the wrong way.....

Oh and like some one said now that it has happened once it will happen again....

If you're taking Ibuprofen, be careful with it. It can cause stomach bleeding and if you've ever had stomach ulcers you should never take it.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
