I've got quite a few kids that are doing very well bare bow and I have 3 seriously talented kids that I'm working with. Two of them already have Genesis bows but the 3rd one doesn't have a bow and they are in the market for one. I have encouraged the kids (and parents) that are doing well, shooting bare bow to stick with that and not transition over to sights and releases.

LOL I guess I didn't ask it. I want to know if there is a better bow out there to set up for finger shooting and barebow than the Genesis. Something that's "infinitely" adjustable and long enough ATA to shoot with fingers.

Why is it that you think they should shoot instinctive instead of using sights?

They are doing really well at it and it's a different class that lets them be more competitive if they are doing good and they enjoy it.

EDIT: and there is no such thing as truly "instinctive" shooting. You just aim using the arrow point in relation to the target. If a person thinks they truly shoot instinctively take 6 arrows of different lengths and shoot them at the same target from the same distance. It won't work out so well. People who think they shoot instinctively still aim with the gap from the arrow tip to the point where they want to hit.

Will they be competing in 4H tournaments or just shooting against each other? Reason I ask is that there is a 4H state shoot in Fayette in April and the Buckmasters Invitational is in August. Now if they choose to compete in either of these with any hope of winning anything they will need compound bows with sights to be competitive. Juniors will have to shoot out to 20 meters and seniors will have to shoot out to 60 meters regardless of equipment. The top 6 in Juniors and seniors class won new bows and got to shoot with the pros at the expo at Buckmasters last year. Every kid ended up getting a nice door prize.

Yes, several of them are going to the state shoot in Fayette. This is our first year to have an archery club and most of them are just going to the shoot to get experience. I don't understand why you say they need sights to be competitive. Bare bow shooters, shoot against bare bow shooters. The ones that are shooting bare bow are all junior shooters. All senior shooters are shooting sights.

You are right about state but if they decide to go to the Buckmasters event they will be grouped with sight shooters and have to shoot the same distance as sight shooters.

It was my understanding that they have to use the Genesis to compete, at least at the entry levels. Mine just shoot 4h for fun so I am not certain on the rules for competition.

Nope, it doesn't have to be Genesis. I don't remember seeing anything in the rules about using a certain bow, but I think they just list out the specs. We have a couple of smaller kids in our group who shoot the little Barnett bows from Walmart which are little more than toys. If they can get it there from 10 and 20, we let them shoot it. They may not be the most competitive, but they are learning and having fun, so that's what it's all about.

My son strated out shooting fingers, but did not do well at all. I found a used PSE Mini Burner on Facebook with all accessories and arrows for $100. So thas what he is shooting and it's adjustable up to 35 or 40 lbs. So he will shoot that for a while.

Exactly my philosophy as well.

The Genesis has a sweet draw cycle. I am not sure there is another bow out there that does what you are already doing with the Genesis.

I shoot a Spigarelli 650 club riser which is designed for olympic barebow events. It's an ILF riser but I'm not sure of the rules and variances in your events, so it may not adapt well at all.

I dont check into the bow forum a whole lot except when bow season in drawing near or during hunting season, so I just now found this thread.

I can't help but to brag on my Granddaughter. She took third at the 4H shoot in Fayetteville in the junior bare bow recurve.

She only got her recurve a few months ago so she is doing great with it. She had a virus that was starting to affect her so if she had felt well, who knows?

She's one of my favorites. I let her shoot a recurve that I take to practice and after that she didn't want any part of a compound. laugh
