An old club I was in was full of people with deep pockets so hardly nobody would work they just wanted to hunt. My thoughts to get people to help do the work is work three or four work days or you don't hunt instead of paying a fine for not working days.

I know of a club that has a mandatory 3 work days, and every work day you miss takes a week off the end of your season.

I would imagine the desired results were achieved. $100 fines won't hurt some, but this one would do the job.

That's the problem I'm having now I've got a few guys that don't hunt very often they do pay Their fines. But when they get there they complain about things it's getting done. So taken away hunt dates may be something that we need to look at that might get their attention. We also have 3 work days with $100 per day missed is what we have now. Better idea is figure out what it would cost to hire someone to help do the work those days and double that figure. Let that be the new amount equal to missing a work day. Put the extra money into club improvements. Deep pocketed people don't get deep pocketed by paying someone else $3-500 per day to do work they could do themselves. Unless they make that kind of money per day (on a weekend). Another possibility is dividing up the work and giving everyone a specific set of tasks. It becomes real apparent real quick then who's not holding up their end. After a certain date hire someone to do that guys tasks, or let another member do it, and give him the guys fine money. Plenty of ways to skin cats. Gotta get creative.

Also, I have a friend that is a superintendent for a construction company that has brought out a crew of amigos to do all the work for $100 per man per day. Pretty smart actually. They can do a heck of a lot more work and faster than a group of fat old white guys not used to working in the summer heat.

We had a similar situation where someone complained about a stand needing some work. He never came to work days and on this day it struck a chord with a member (his Dad) and was given a hammer, some nails and lumber and was told to go fix it or shut up. There was a group of about 8 of us out of 18-20 that always showed up for work days and did stuff on their On my way! as well. I busted out laughing the day this happened-PRICELESS

I have never heard of levying a fine for not pulling your weight at the lease. Why not just not include them in the lease the following year. There's people looking to join a club every year.

Work days and fees are one thing what about equipment how is it handled? Also equipment damage (i.e. flats, broken disk blades. I have always tried to do more than my share and be a good member. Last year I think I covered every green field on our club. I don't mind and believe in using what I have and helping, but it is annoying when the majority show up and ride 4 wheelers instead of working, while you haul equipment back and forth and damage it on rough new food plots.

I think planting all the plots on a big lease with your equipment is very likely worth a huge chunk of your membership fee. It would be if you hired it out, and then some.

Our club gives a membership to our tractor guy hopefully that will cover any expenses he incurs........

You haven't been in many clubs then I guess.......Also just because so,me one doesn't show up for work days doesn't necessarily make them a bad member. They could be a ethical hunter that doesn't put a lot of pressure on the property and get a long with everyone........

They could be a ethical hunter that doesn't put a lot of pressure on the property and get a long with everyone........ Actually I've been in at least one club every year since 1996. Right now I've got 3 leases that I'm responsible for with different land owners. Things may have changed since I pulled my own leases but we never did it in any club I've been in. It's always been my rule that if you didn't make it to a work day you were assigned something to do before the season started and you couldn't miss more than 1 work day. Now I have had members that didn't put much effort into work days but they were always put with someone who would make sure they worked on the next work day. If that didn't work they just weren't invited back the next year. Simple as that. But I guess if you have 30 members you probably can't live by this just because of the number of people to keep up with. I still say its not worth the drama of dealing with members that aren't willing to put the work into a club. If I have to worry about fineing you for not working, your not worth your membership anyway and your gone. Unless it's the mythical member that pays their dues early every year and never shows for work but also only hunts on opening day then never shows up again till time to pay dues next year. I wouldn't mind having a couple of those.

For a little lesson in reverse psychology, try charging everyone $100 for each workday you intend to have, then pay them $100 for each day they make.
If they can't make it you hire out the missing labor or pay everyone else the difference.
"The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. - Finn Aagard

That maybe a way to try it. An see what results come from the change. It makes total sense an possibly the best way to finally get those members we all as club management see every year telling the few that actually show up that we dont do things right or the way we planted is wrong but never do you see them on work/plant days.
