We've been busting it the last few days and it is starting to show. My Brother has been up helping me.

I've got all the trim, flooring and baseboards in the down stairs. All the flooring is done upstairs, but I still need to do the door trim and baseboards up there, along with a little miscellaneous trim.

The upstairs bathroom is complete other than a little miscellaneous trim at the top of the high ceiling.

My Brother nearly has the stair rail and trim complete. He came home with me yesterday and is going to cut the wrought iron spindles at his house to finish the stair rail.

Yesterday he and Mrs. Irish finished laying the subway tile in the kitchen.

I have the vanity installed in the downstairs half bath, but we still have the 2" slab of live edge sycamore to cut and fit for the counter top and install the bronze vessel sink and faucet and the downstairs bath will be complete.

We also still need to install the mini-split system.

And I need to install the triple wall chimney.

We are almost there. As close as we have ever been.

Stairs...

Flooring and baseboards over by the pantry and half bath... Don't think there's anything wrong with the miter joints, that's just a little glue seeping out. I like to glue and brad nail the joints at the outside edge miters. It keeps them together. That glue will get cleaned up.

My brother laying subway tile...

Living room area complete... And yes, before you give me any grief, that's Julia Childs on the TV. She's a bad ass. grin

Dining room area complete... And yes, I used flooring for the baseboards. I had a bunch left over and I didn't have enough trim for the baseboards, so I got the bright idea to rip the tongues off the flooring and then stain the new edge and lay that stuff down for the baseboards. Mrs. Irish, my brother and I all like it, and it's done and that's what's important. Trying to get stuff checked off my punch list.

Another pic showing the pantry, half bath and laundry door... We found a cool old wash board with glass in it for the washing surface. Mrs. Irish thought is should go on the laundry door...

[Linked Image]

Another kitchen pic. Gas range and fridge are supposed to be delivered next Saturday. The pain on the cabinets turned out great as did the Acadia wood butcher block counter tops. We are up to 5 applications of "Good Stuff" and they look and feel great.

[Linked Image]

A better picture of the stairs. That window unit will be removed and the hole covered over or maybe a piece of stained glass will go in there... You can see my list of things to do tacked to the wall...

[Linked Image]

Our bedroom is pretty much finished except for door trim and baseboards. The queen sized bed will go in the guest bedroom and we will be getting another king sized bed in here. Finishing the lofts isn't even on my radar now, but I need to get them finished and get the Thomas Jefferson Stairs built soon...

[Linked Image]

Our nice slate shower my brother built is all dusty from the construction, but it's still nice...

[Linked Image]

That's all for now... Pushing hard to be complete by the end of March when our builder's risk policy is up and Brandon will be getting us a regular policy.

Looking good man. You have really put in the time on this project. Makes me realize I have no desire to build my own cabin unless I'm retired. It's been fun to watch though.

Thanks guys. It's been fun and challenging. There has been quite a few things that we have really stressed out about like the septic system and the mystery leak in the east facing wall, but we have those resolved now and are headed to the finish line. We are really looking forward to our first carefree weekend at the cabin with all the main stuff finished.

Honestly... We were so naive in the beginning that we had no idea what we were even getting into. We were like Pollyanna on some grand adventure without a care in the World. Had we known then what we know now, we probably would have been too scared to start out on this path. The bottom line is though because of our almost complete ignorance of what it was going to take and our stubborn perseverance... Here we are with a mortgage free retirement home. So it has worked out for better or worse.

Looks great Irish! Make sure you put a good coat of penetrating sealer on that slate in your shower walls. It's a very porous material plus it will help keep soap scum from hanging to it. thumbup

We are. We've put a coat or two on there, but need to put more to give it more of a sheen.

Very sharp. I like the subway tile in the kitchen.
