I built some trough feeders for my deer a few weeks back I have my cams set up and no deer seem to be coming to it... I've tried apples and the coons get it before the deer was able to... Anyone got any ideas on how to get the deer to come to it... I've tried corn around the outside and they will eat it but won't eat out of trough... Any help will be appreciated thanks...

It's a bad time of year to be trying a feeder for the first time. Deer are natural browsers, not stand in one place and eaters. They'll eat out of it, but not as readily when everything in the woods is starting to turn green. Give it time, and get used to feeding the coons. Last tip, if you want it to get maximum usage, put it in a spot that offers little more cover, like a logging road. They prefer to have cover, even when it's dark. A biologist told me we'd get different deer on camera if we put our bait sites in a little cover instead of on fields.

Put a couple scoops of dried molasses in with your corn they want be able to resist it , may just take a little time for them to get adjusted to it but they will use it .

Hurry up and wait. We have had it take up to a year for them to eat out of a trough, and then again on the other side of the property they will eat out of one the same week we put it out. Go figure

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

Hope you have better luck than me. I've tried everything at the house, and they "will not it from them!" I've place broadcast and troughs out for months, and no luck. I can remove feeders and place feed on the ground, and ill have a few trickle in that very evening lol....

Yea it's crazy I've got friends that use them and the deer eat out of them with no problems... I've placed feed all around and they will get close but not elect out of them... I'll give it some more time and see what happens

Unless you want to increase your coon and possum populations thereby decreasing your surviving turkey eggs I'd sell that trough.

If that lumber is treated it may take a few months before they will use it. I assume they don't like the chemical in treated lumber. Just occasionally put corn in and around it and eventually they will eat.

I put one out in August this year and it was October before a deer used it. Since then I built 3 more and let them sit in the weather for 3 weeks before sitting them out and deer used them the first night.

I bought a banks feeder last summer, and they wouldn't eat out of it for anything. I left it out all year so they could get used to it.Right after deer season this year when there was minimal browse available, I filled it and put corn around it. The next week I piled corn up at the base of the feeder, and on the lip of the feeder. The third week I got pictures of the deer eating out of it. They're going through 300lbs every couple weeks now. Banks feeders aren't a trough feeder, but it's the same principal, the deer will have to get used to it before they start using it.

Try rice bran or a small salt/mineral block.

They are coming in a little but I'm guessing it is because of all the green out there to eat... Got a couple pics of the does starting to get interested... Just to note the coons are getting bigger on hoof and eating what they want lol... Thanks for all the help guys... Just got to give it more time...
