It's a bad time of year to be trying a feeder for the first time. Deer are natural browsers, not stand in one place and eaters. They'll eat out of it, but not as readily when everything in the woods is starting to turn green. Give it time, and get used to feeding the coons. Last tip, if you want it to get maximum usage, put it in a spot that offers little more cover, like a logging road. They prefer to have cover, even when it's dark. A biologist told me we'd get different deer on camera if we put our bait sites in a little cover instead of on fields.

Hurry up and wait. We have had it take up to a year for them to eat out of a trough, and then again on the other side of the property they will eat out of one the same week we put it out. Go figure
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers.......... Si Robertson

Hope you have better luck than me. I've tried everything at the house, and they "will not it from them!" I've place broadcast and troughs out for months, and no luck. I can remove feeders and place feed on the ground, and ill have a few trickle in that very evening lol....

I bought a banks feeder last summer, and they wouldn't eat out of it for anything. I left it out all year so they could get used to it.Right after deer season this year when there was minimal browse available, I filled it and put corn around it. The next week I piled corn up at the base of the feeder, and on the lip of the feeder. The third week I got pictures of the deer eating out of it. They're going through 300lbs every couple weeks now. Banks feeders aren't a trough feeder, but it's the same principal, the deer will have to get used to it before they start using it.
