I mentioned while back about having a soon to be 18yr old needing a job...well that time came 3 weeks ago...did anyone have anything available? He is a stout big ol boy...he thought he might go to work with some of the wife's kin folks...but you know how those useless broken promises(and people)go..anyway he is home schooled and will finish and graduate this summer...I/he is needing a full time job so that he can experience life and make some $$ so I can help him get a truck..he has done several different things but no real paying job..he is eager and willing to learn new trades..any info would be appreciated

Have him apply as a temp at Honda. They start out around $13 an hour. When they are hired full time that jumps up considerably.

If you have a motivated movers near you I highly recommend them...Ben and his staff gave my kid his first job. Hard work and good pay...but he better be ready to do some lifting....

I can't stop watching your avatar

Seriously, not many places are hiring now. Jobs for 16-18 are nearly non-existent.

18-22 are rare too.

Adults waiting tables and working fast food for careers now. Companies don't have to waste time with the younger kids

I made good money as an 18 year old moving furniture with a local company, but You definitely earn your money doing that stuff.

Probably wouldn't be a bad route to go as far as gaining work experience and making a little cash.

With the way construction is booming in Tuscaloosa i would feel safe saying you could walk in any of a dozen general contractors and get a job immediately as a laborer.

Would need to pass drug test and get up early, but could make a steady paycheck

I'm sure they would love to see an English speaker wanting to work

If he can drive, that's an even better gig

Is he planning on going to school? If so, he should get s job carrying Sheetrock. It won't take much of that to encourage him to stay in school and get good grades.

He needs to go to college. If I hadnt been a dumb ass and listened to everyone back then I wouldn't have gotten into the mess I've been in

I currently work part time are Publix as a cashier and while it's certainly not a glamorous job I would suggest him consider Publix.
There is always some department that needs some dependable employee.

When I think I have it bad, I just remind myself that it beats roofing houses in Florida during the summer. Another job that would suck is installing septic tanks. I had a guy tell me that they frequently find the lines already full of crap when they go to hook them up.

Car cleaning places are booming,it's fast paced hard work..I'm sure something would be available around Tuscaloosa.I bet the Mercedes plant has a temp service too,a few months on a assembly line will have him in college/trade school in no time.

I used to work with a guy who told me his first job was working on a ranch that bred thoroughbred race horses. Sounds pretty cool, right?

The ranch had purchased a stud for a huge amount of money, like 6 figures, and on the way home with him, he stomped a hole in the floor of the trailer and wound up being dragged for about half a mile. He recuperated but was permanently injured in his hind legs...he could still mount a mare, but couldn't ring the "bullseye", so to speak. This guys' job was to snap on the ol' latex glove, and, ummm...assist...if you will. He said it paid ok and did give him some appreciation for a more mainstream job!

If he is interested, tell him to look at DR Horton. IDK if they will judge by his age, but if he is a hard worker he can get a job as a builder assistant, then move to a superintendent within 2 years. As quickly as 6 months sometimes.
Can be a tough job as far as stress goes, but it can be a very good job as well.

Let him work a summer doing roofing or duct work. He might change his tune about school
