I heard on the radio this morning the Bell wants to build the new Baron's stadium next to Railroad Park in B'ham. They said they may have to enforce Eminent Domain to get the property though. Seriously?? They're going to take someone's property to build a baseball field?!
If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.-Mark Twain

Attendance will drop dramatically.

Attendance will drop dramatically. I don't think so. There are a lot of people, like me who don't go now only because the met is a pain in the ass to get to.

We have a suite at the stadium now and we definitely won't when it moves to Birmingham. I think attendance and sponsorships will drop when it moves. Gonna be some mad ballplayers when they realize they have to pay Birmingham city taxes on their income as well.

So who is footing the bill for this new fabulous stadium?
But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?

I thought b'ham/jeff co was bankrupt? But they have $$ to build multi million dollar stadium downtown for the crackheads to hang out at. Brilliant.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Don Logan did not get rich making bad business decisions. This. Naysayers howled about Montgomery building a stadium by a decrepit train station and run-down buildings in a chitty part of town. Amazingly ... the train station now has thrived as a centerpiece for events and conventions, the old Embassy got a renovation as a convention complex and the run-down buildings have been renovated into cool restaurants and a go-to place.

Since they have not been able to build a domed stadium to placate the masses they will build an overpriced baseball field that will untimately be painted parks & recreation green.
If the Baron's want a new Stadium let the White Sox organization build it.

If the Baron's want a new Stadium let the White Sox organization build it. There is a huge difference in a 500 million dollar dome and a 50 million dollars baseball park.

Chattanooga's stadium and the Aquarium helped revitalize that downtown area that was languishing.
We go to C'nooga now for a weekend just for the heck of it. Baseball, fish, walking around looking in shops, eating. Nice getaway.
Rome built a first-class stadium for the Atlanta Braves' Single-A team. Greenville built a helluva stadium for its team, and helped spark a revitalization there.
It ain't just about a baseball team owner 'getting rich' from the taxpayers' money. Civic projects are good for the community and the overall.
Huntsville needs to do something with its crappy 25-year old stadium and putting it downtown somewhere would be smart. But there's no space downtown b/c they've enclosed pretty much everything. So, it languishes and the city probably will lose the team in a few years.

[quote=doekiller]This is not an area of crackheads. The area surrounding it (Railroad Park) is filled with families every weekend. It is filled during the week with people from downtown walking and eating lunch.
You people that think downtown Birmingham is crime riddled need to check the stats. Very little crime happens in the city center. The crime is in areas away from the city center.
Birmingham is not broke, that is Jefferson County. Two different governments.
Excuse me...not from that area, but I know when we've had meetings around what I call down town a lot of the folks I saw didn't have a nice appearance. Same goes for when I go to the bjcc...every time i go there, I get hit up for money (maybe I look rich :)). I know when I've been to uab med center i noticed emergency call boxes about every 100 ft..I guess that's just city gov being overly protective. Also heard lots of stories about bad folks in and around uab campus...is that not downtown? In regards to b'ham/jeff co and bankruptcy statement...again, i ain't from there, just heard someone there was broke because of a bad sewer system or something. My appologies for my incorrect statements.
I agree clem, hsv needs to update "the joe" in a major way.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

If the Baron's want a new Stadium let the White Sox organization build it. There is a huge difference in a 500 million dollar dome and a 50 million dollars baseball park. Then it makes it even cheaper for the White Sox organization to build it if they want to move. Too damn easy to spend everybody else's money.
