Why do people feel compelled to ask this question in an interview? Do they actually expect someone to say something actually bad? I got asked this question recently and I almost lost it laughing because it's so stupid!

I ask it when I interview managers to see if they are being truthful. I already know their weakness, but want to make sure they recognize and acknowledge it so we can try to fix it.

The last company I worked for that was a standard question on all interviews. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard "Sometimes I work too hard and stay at the office too long"

For the guys inn upper management or interview knowledge, what is a great answer to this. I am being interviewed next week for a little promotion and i am going to get this question. I know i am. Pretty women is probably not the answer they are looking for. I am a chief operator now at a chemical plant of that helps.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

So what do you say, Hmmm I have no weaknesses. Wrong answer. We all have weaknesses. I was asked this question last week in an interview and I told the interviewer I'd have to think about it and answer in a few minutes. She said ok and proceeded to ask more questions about my work history. As we talked I realized I did have a couple of weaknesses but I was able to explain what I was doing to help me fix them. She thanked me for my honesty and I interviewed with the hiring manager yesterday and have a face to face interview scheduled for next week. Be honest with the interviewer. To answer in the negative shows you're arrogant. You don't want to do that. Just my recent experience.

The last interview I had was 3 years ago and I was asked that question. I said that at times I was forgetful, but I was aware of that weakness and I always carried a little notebook and pen with me to write down important things at work. I think if you answer honestly and then stress what you do to overcome that weakness you'll be OK.

The answer they are looking for is honesty and what are you doing to work on your weakness. The wrong answer is a self-serving answer like "Working too hard" as mentioned by JAT. Example of a good answer is, if you do not delegate well, what are you doing to work on delegating? Give an example of a project/task that you delegated to someone and how you monitored it without taking over. Good luck country with your interview.

I just think it's silly. Clearly I wouldn't recommend saying you have none, but they shouldn't expect anything real, like "I fart in public then leave the area!" rofl

More like "I care too much and bring my work home with me", which is stupid but that's what they want to hear.

The other one I despise is "What questions do you have?" Like a grown man has a question but is too bashful to ask if the job offers health insurance.

Give an honest yet harmless answer. Example: If you are interviewing for a job that doesn't require a lot of group interaction say you are not a good public speaker.

That is a pretty good one there. I don't think I've heard that one in probably over 200 interviews.

That makes you perfectly qualified for public office.
