I have a friend who is in the construction business. He has about 100 sections of scaffolding that is no longer osha compliant. Something about the way the x braces are attached.
We are trying to come up with some uses. We considered using them as bases to shooting houses. We thought we could weld the x braces on permantely. Then build a house on the top.
The advantages to this would be a built in ladder for access and pretty stable platform. We plan to set four 4x4 into concrete and bolt the scaffolding into it so it would not blow over.
Disadvantage would be that it might be noisy. But if it was always there I assume the deer would get used to it. We have a stand that has a loose metal panel and the wind makes it bang back and forth but it has been that way for about 4 years and the deer pay it no attention...
Has anyone used them for this before? Any other ideas for uses...

Concrete or not I'd put guy wires on them.

Periodically somebody will suggest building stands on them. I've hunted out of a couple, and they do tend to creak. However, the main drawback is cost. Even worn out scaffolding is high. If you've got the material for free, have a ball.

Those are shoring posts with uheads for shoring beams under structures. I work in the scaffold rental business and deal with that stuff all the time.
