Play the wind, stay at least 45 mins per setup. Before leaving spot I like to let the call go for about 8 mins. The reason being is that if there is a bobcat around, he tends to stop walking when the call stops. I have killed more yotes at daylight than any other time. When leaving, stand up slow and look around. Many times I have had a cat on the edge of a field that I couldn't see sitting down, but was able to see him when standing up. Down be afraid to try different calls, the standard cottontail distress is a good starter, but I have had success lately with a baby goat. There are no goats in my area, but I guess it's just a different sound.

They are curious start with low volume , call for 5 min pausing a few times and then wait 5 min without calling . Gradually increase volume but don't leave it on loud for to long . The thicker the cover and the more hilly the terrain the distance sound will carry is reduced. In thick hilly terrain you don't have to move as far between setups . Low to medium volume is better with more setups . I like to call from hilltops on power lines .

I like to stick with the same distress call for about 20 to 30 min . I like to mix up a couple of barks and yips after I change sounds . You can call abytime, but go at it about like deer hunting dawn and dusk .. They are searching for a mate right now . If you have some open terrsin where you can see long distance try challenge barks and mating calls also. But try these 20 min or so before dark. If no one has called in the area I would try the rabbit distress first. stick with those for a few setups .Any squeaky rodent distress will Work even if it's not native to the area . Keep your head on a swivel snd your gun ready , it happens fast .

Coyotes have come snaeking in on me like Rin Tin Tin crawling on their belly and others charging like the Light Brigade. Had a couple even run by me so fast I didn't have a chance to shoot. When you see one don't move. If he knew you were there then he wouldn't be. Wait until he's focused elsewhere before drawing down on him. He will see movement. if using a decoy make sure the decoy is out of line of sight of you - When he sees the decoy you need to be off to the side. If you shoot one, don't move. Keep on calling. I've got several that way.

Well try it. Apparently you're not very good at predator hunting so try and think like a predator. Instead of a smart ass. That's helped me kill 40+ yotes with a rifle/shotgun in 3 1/2 years.

Chicken distress call works great around these parts.
