Alright guys, this is a question for all of you landscapers.
Yesterday, we had a new septic tank and new field lines installed at our house. When they finished, they just pushed all the remainder dirt to halfway smooth it out. Now, there are volleyball sized dirt clumps making up nearly my entire yard. What is the easiest way to smooth it all back down?? being over the septic system, i cant drive over like i originally planned..
and what should i plant to get a decent looking yard again??
This is my first house, never cared about the yard, until now. If any of you have a dirt track car, this stuff would be perfect lol

You're gonna have bigger problems if they didn't "hump" it over the field lines, first big rain it will settle and you'll be bringing in more dirt. Let it rain on it a time or two, you'll be surprised how much it will break up clumps, smooth it and make it settle.

Nobody humping my ditches!

In all seriousness, they just covered it. No humps over them at all. They flattened it all and threw hay over it.
This is how it sits at the moment.

Interested in this thread myself. I just cleared a bunch of trees and stumps at my house and looking to grow some grass, but not interested in paying for sod!

I did get a tractor and box blade and level things out. Just trying to figure out my plan of attack for planting some kind of grass. I was going to treat and like a foot plot and see what happens!

Unless they kept packing dirt over the lines, it will settle and sink the first big rain.

Same should happen to hallb's stump holes if he didn't pack or hump extra dirt over them.

First it's going to sink/settle so be ready for that. If you want it smooth quickly a Harley/power take will do the trick for you. My opinion is fescue and rye grass are the fastest grasses to get going and easiest to maintain. Bermuda and zoysia looks the best to me. With that said that's my opinion about grass. If you treat it like a good plot no matter what you plant it should do well.

The secret to a long marriage is to keep on dating, just as you did before marriage. We have "date night" once a week.
Hers is Saturday, mine is Thursday.

The only time a married woman gives those is if your not married to them!

Like has been stated above, it's gonna settle. I wouldn't fix it permanent just yet.
