Supper tonight took me back quite a few years. If not for my obsession with deer hunting and my culinary prowess as a self declared master chef I might be a lonely bachelor. Nearly 25 years ago, I met a much younger strawberry blonde down on the plains. Turns out she had a soft spot for this country boy. She told me that when I quoted a scene from a William Shakespeare play that she knew I was the one for her, but I imagine it had more to do with the dinner that I fixed for her on our first date. As most college kids I had little money, definitely not enough for a night on the town, but I whipped up a fine meal of fried tenderloin, English peas, mashed potatoes and biscuits. Probably one of the finest meals ever cooked. At least one of the finest meals cooked in a trailer in Auburn that night.... We had the same exact menu for supper tonight that we had all those years ago. Tonight she returned the favor and cooked. She still can't fry deer meat as good as I can. I told the kids tonight, that if ol dad wasn't a mighty hunter and fine chef that their mother might not have ever married me and they would never have been. My 16 year old daughter sort of rolled her eyes. LOL It's amazing the amount of memories in my life that revolve around a pine goat. I enjoy them every one.

I used Sani Freeze to seal the deal. Is that still around? I'd doubt it.

The Flush was demolished about years ago for an AmSouth bank. Some history: http://www.trueauburn.com/2010/10/sani-freeze-better-known-as-flush.htmlGreat story, Fur! Which trailer park?

Awesome!!
I did a lot of stir fry in college with deer tenderloin. All kinds of simple but good cooking as well.

Swans #2. That was the best time in my life. We lived "around the curve" at the end of the driveway. The neighbor above me was from Frisco City. We became great friends. The two below me were from Childersburg. When they moved in, they had their furniture in a cattle trailer. I knew then that we'd make fast friends. We all ended up being great friends and we are still friends. We spent more time hanging out than we ever did going to class. We shot bows every day, did taxidermy and just had a good time. The 2 boys from Childersburg were cowboys and we made a "bull" out of a 55 gallon steel drum. We put it in a little pine thicket across the driveway. It probably ended up being one of the top 10 attractions at Auburn. There were days, and nights that the stream of trucks coming in to ride the "bull" was reminiscent of the cars coming to watch baseball on "Field of Dreams." If we could find a VHS tape that we made back then, I would likely be retired from the amount of sponsorships and money that we would rake in off Youtube.

After the Turnip Green Soup, I have no doubt of the culinary greatness that you possess.
So what was the line? Et Tu Brute?

After the Turnip Green Soup, I have no doubt of the culinary greatness that you possess.
So what was the line? Et Tu Brute? No, it was a line from MacBeth: MACBETH If it were done when tis done, then twere well It were done quickly. If the assassination Could trammel up the consequence, and catch With his surcease success; that but this blow Might be the be-all and the end-all here, But here, upon this bank and shoal of time, Wed jump the life to come. But in these cases We still have judgment here, that we but teach Bloody instructions, which, being taught, return To plague th' inventor: this even-handed justice Commends the ingredients of our poisoned chalice To our own lips. Hes here in double trust: First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, Who should against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself. Besides, this Duncan Hath borne his faculties so meek, hath been So clear in his great office, that his virtues Will plead like angels, trumpet-tongued, against The deep damnation of his taking-off; And pity, like a naked newborn babe, Striding the blast, or heavens cherubim, horsed Upon the sightless couriers of the air, Shall blow the horrid deed in every eye, That tears shall drown the wind. I have no spur To prick the sides of my intent, but only Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself And falls on th' other. I had to memorize that for Senior English and I can still to this day recite about the first half of it. I suppose to a stringy haired girl from NW FL that there are few things more romantic than a hillbilly reciting Shakespeare.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Far more impressive than "Et tu, Brute?" for sure!

Venison has fed a lot of young folks over on the plains. Both of my kids would come home from Auburn several weekends, raid the chest freezer and take the choicest cuts back with them to campus. I think they were feeding half the student body. Back when I was in school there, I was a much better dear hunter, than a deer hunter. My dad only hunted birds, we never had a freezer full of quail. That may explain why I was always hungry and broke during college.
