I am relatively new to Alabama (3 years) and i worked in TN up until December so while up there i hunted a friends private property. Now that i am working in Alabama I want to find somewhere to hunt down here. Does anyone know of hunting clubs, land for lease, or where any decent public land is near or surrounding counties of limestone county. I am mainly a meat hunter usually only 1 or 2 deer a season so if someone needs "doe control" thats fine.

I plan on looking into the archery only season at swan creek WMA. Has anyone ever hunted there or have any info about hunting on swan creek WMA?

Thanks for any help.

The property I was hunting up there was only 5 acres and not many deer as it was a pass through property for them. This pass season i only saw 5 deer inconsistently on the property from July to December. At $300 a license its just getting way to expensive (price goes up each year by about $25) to not get anything. If i had the ability to manage the property not just sit on it then maybe i could pull more deer but the owner has already turned down that idea.

Swan Creek or Wheeler. If you are a meat hunter you should be able to do some good at either of these places. There are some pretty good deer killed every year from both of these. There is also some spotty TVA land here and there that is public. Not many clubs or leases in Limestone. Keep your contacts in Tennessee, but you can kill a couple here and have a good time. Do your homework.

Bankhead and Skyline are close too.

Wheeler has some incredible places if you are willing to put in the time to find them. Generally you have to cross some water or be willing to walk a good ways into the woods to find a true hotspot. A couple deer a year there with a bow is certainly do-able. After gun season opens, you can often have large areas all to yourself.
