I think it being Alabama would be the reason for the skewed results. I know tons of hunters in Alabama that really don't care about the deer. They are just glad to kill something, and say they got some meat. Most of the ones in that category have either never, or only killed 1 decent sized deer in 20 to 30 years, and just given up on their hunting experience being nothing more than just shooting something two or three times a year. Most of those answers were probably from people that like the limits and season as is, because it gives them the chance to kill something as soon as they see it, because they know they may not see much. I one of those hunters who couldn't care less about what you call a trophy. It doesn't make me more of a man or more of a hunter to have a big deer on my wall. I wouldn't give you a $100 if you could guarantee me shooting a record book deer. It just doesn't mean anything to me at all. Now,if I'm hunting on your land,I'll respect your rules, but I just don't get excited by how many points or how big a deer's antlers are.

I find this funny......especially since many see this as a big show of Support for Mandatory Reporting: In the World of email based surveys 10% is a pretty good response rate. Typical is about 2%. Dang good chance that the 90% that did not respond are probably not for Mandatory Reporting seeing as how they would not even Reply to an email!!! i did not respond to the survey, in fact i never opened it, because the dcnr has proven that they don't give a rats butt what my opinion is or yours. Im not sure what the motivation was with this survey.

The Questions were loaded questions that cause a skewed response. #8 Do you support mandatory harvest reporting of deer to provide information to better manage the deer population? Of course more people are in favor of "better manage". The Question should have been rephrased "Do you support mandatory harvest reporting of deer?" It doesn't matter anyway. I bet the decision has already been made. yeah , way i been against it .

I bet the decision has already been made. Exactly, and that was part of why it bothered me so much. That was a very, very slanted instrument, designed to get the answers they wanted. It doesn't look like it was random, so there was nothing scientific about it. Paul Hubbert knew how to design survey instruments that "proved" 99% of the people were in favor of fat teacher raises. Looks like somebody at the Dcnr was taking notes. Like you said, its probably already decided anyway.

Won't it take the legislature to make the mandatory check in a go? Or to be able to make penalties for not doing it. uh, mmmm...NO. Regulation put forth by the Commissioner or even by the CAB...

You would think so. With the whole "three braches of goverment" and checks and balances like we learned about in elementary school. But alas, that's not how "rules" for hunting work in Alabama.

IF...If that is the route they decide to go, I will NOT buy phone just so I can hunt my own land! Check into different carriers if you have a chance. Some you may be able to get cheaper service than home service now. Do away with home phone....Maybe save$$$$.
