Well I had a bow mishap this evening that's got me torn up. I saw a nice 8 point early season that I decided if I saw him while bow hunting that I would take him. Well this evening right at dark I hear a deer running up a hill behind me on the small powerline I was hunting. I could hear the deer getting closer and closer to my right. When it seems like the deer is on top of me I turn my head to the right and I see him. It's the eight point I saw early season. He eased behind some brush so I slowly get stood up and right when I'm up he eases out onto the powerline at 25-30 yards. I began to turn to my right and my bow limb brushes up against a pine needle and makes a screeching sound. The buck took off across the powerline ( only 60 yards wide) and blew about 10 times. I picked up my grunt call and grunted at him a few times and he walked back out. Right as I thought he was going to ease back my way he took off up the powerline and blew 5 or 6 more times. This would have been my best buck with a bow and I'm pretty sick to say the least

Sorry about the mishap but bowhunting is still 10 times better than any gun hunt. Hang in there and chances are you may get a 2nd opportunity.

That's bow hunting in a nutshell. Makes the eventual kill that much sweeter.

I feel for you. I had a similar situation on Saturday morning too. I had a spike come up from behind walking and sniffing the air as he headed right to my Tinks canister. I decide it would be cool to video his action and start recording him with my phone. Then I hear a twig snap behind him, turn and look and it is nice 8 point. Before I can even reach for my bow, I turn back around and the spike is looking straight up at me, BUSTED. He spins and runs off and the 8 just backed out and walked away. The story of my season so far.

Sounds like a good hunt! If I hear a bunch of running, that's when I try to get into a possible shooting position.

I was hunting a greenfield yesterday afternoon and checked my camera on the way in. A good 7 pointer had worked the scrape Friday at 5 pm. At 3:10 he walks out to feed to my right and the wind is perfect for me. Then all of a sudden the wind swirls and he is gone!
