Do you need to shoot feathers or can you shoot blazer vanes off of the shelf.or do I need to put the flipper rest on it.I was going to use the same arrows as my compound.

You can use a flipper but of more concern to me is that you use correctly spined arrows for your trad bow.If your bow isn't tuned and you aren't shooting correctly spined arrows you will shoot left,right,high or low even when you use proper form. Tuning will be even more critical with Blazer vanes than with big feathers.

Bareshaft tuning is the best way to make sure you are using properly spined arrows. I won't go into it right now as it is quite detailed. You can research it and feel free to PM me any specific questions.

Yes sir I understand about the spine of my arrows. is the chart for compound poundage not the same for a recurve? If it is I'm good but if not I'll need to get new ones.I want to shoot off the shelf not the flipper rest that's why I was asking. the chart for arra spine is NOT the same for compounds and recurves, esp if you are shooting carbons.

what draw, and pound bow are you shooting??

Chart won't be the same. With a trad bow a lot of things come into play including what string material and how the riser is cut. The only way to know is to shoot some bare shafts.

I would use feathers off the shelf. Even then there's some tricks you can do to make a shelf shoot better.

Also what bow is it? What's the bows draw weight and what is your actual measured draw length. Trad bow draw is usually a little shorter than compound draw. Do you know what string material you are shooting?

There's also a difference between longbow and recurve, 3rivers has a good chart with it all on.

Yes sir it is!I have truly enjoyed myself me and the daughter been flinging arrows like crazy. She's whipping me pretty good with her new compound but I'm tighting my groups up some. I think I'll take her tomorrow. Best time me and her have had in the yard.

I would imagine it would be tough to get your compound arrows to fly worth a flip. Thank goodness my longbow ain't too picky. I shoot full length GoldTip Trad 3555 with a 125 up front and they fly great. I order mine off eBay a lot. You can find blem shafts on eBay pretty cheap.

Feathers fly much better. Vanes are too stiff and don't come off the shelf like feathers. However, I keep one arrow in my quiver with vanes. They handle the rain better!

The rain is one of the reasons I bought natural Turkey Feathers to use on my arrows, that and they look great.

a perfectly tuned arra will fly straight at short ranges(trad) with soaking wet feathers. Feathers, esp big/long feathers, will hide a lot of bad tuning.

Im not sure what it is called but im pretty sure there is some powder you can put on your feathers that will keep them from matting down in slight wetness. Now a down pour im not sure.
