just got set up about 20 minutes ago. Hunting a loc on I haven't hunted in a month or so. Hardwood ridge with a pine thicket behind me, pond to my left and straight out about 200 yards. Hoping to catch them coming across the powerline to my right. Y'all get after them

Live from an undisclosed, top secret bow-only area on Redstone Arsenal! Yes, you read it right, Claims Rep. Has put down the ML! Me and Jr. are set up in a couple of good spots. Hope today is his day too! (Would appreciate a prayer any up on Jr's behalf!) My view:

I just got back from Cahaba, I don't have service where I'm hunting, but I saw 6 does and 2 scrub bucks this morning all between 8-1030. Felt great outside for a chance.
There are no rainy days...

Back for round 2 hunting in a hardwood bottom where I saw three bucks a couple of weekends ago. One was a nice 8 point, maybe he will show up this evening

Well I decided to try something today, put the decoy out and did some calling. Had a spike come in to within 20ft of the decoy at 3:40 but it figured something was wrong; stomped its front leg about 6 times and walked off and then crossed back in front of me 70yds away. I decided that the decoy idea was no good so I got down from the stand and took it down. Just at last light I went ahead and started getting ready to get down; I turned to get my calls and put them in my pack when I caught movement 70yds to my front. I watched a huge bodied deer coming straight at me so I re-knocked and got ready. The deer then turned walking into the woods so I figured it was going to circle my small kill plot and come out to my right. I saw it in the wood line and it appeared that I had guessed correctly except it stood looking into the woods and got nervous. About that time I hear something coming in my direction making a lot of noise. It was then that I saw that it was a doe that I had been watching but she took off back the way she came; before I could react a monster 8pt walked right out into the plot, head down straight toward me. I drew and waited hoping he would turn and give me a shot. Nothing, he didn't move a bit, I then grunted at him and he never moved, I grunted even louder and he just looks at me. Still no movement, I then snort wheezed at him twice and he never budges. By now it is too dark to shoot and I let off at which time he bolts. I then see that the big 6pt was 10yds behind the 8pt. Have to say I nearly peed myself when that 8pt came walking out without a care in the world. Based on this day I would have to say that the deer are not studying the rut right now.
